Please celebrate with Maureen and me!!

Unread post by ITWA Travel Writer »

My daughter arrived home from a holiday in Venice yesterday sporting a gleaming engagement ring.

We knew it was in the offing as Stewart had asked for my permission before they set off.

Lorain said that he proposed in the Caffe Florian in the Piazza San Marco whilst they were listening to the orchestra. Both are now thirty eight and have never been attached before, but here’s the twist, Lorain and Stewart were both at the same primary school and when they were only eight years she old announced then that she was going to marry Stewart.

Sporting a wee bit of a shampoo hangover this morning, but we will celebrate officially next Saturday at their favourite harbour side restaurant with Stewart’s mother.
:D :D :D

Well congratulations! When you are feeling marginally worn out by the excitement - and a bit mellow - may I cordially recommend that you watch 'Father of The Bride'?

You've now got a wedding planning session in the offing - enjoy!

Bagsy the front seat, as I don't travel well in the back of stretched Rolls Royce's after six beers, three bottles of wine and several slammers for some reason :D

That's great ITWA, and so nice to know that real romance is still alive despite all this cynicism. How nice that he asked your permission as well. Congratulations all round I say, including you and Maureen for raisng such an obviously nice daughter.

Congratulations to you all. I know just how excited you must be as our eldest daughter ( 35) got engaged a few weeks ago, the day before we set off on a six week holiday. It wasn't in a romantic setting such as your daughters, but Catherine's fiancé did get down on one knee and propose properly.

Lots of excitement ahead for both of us.

Congratulations to the Bride and Groom to be and of course to you and your wife John ..best get saving for the big day :o

What a wonderful place to be proposed to, I can't imagine anywhere more romantic and Florians is the icing on the cake .. I hope the band played 'Congratulations' to them.

How lovely that your future SIL asked your permission, my niece's husband asked my brother before he proposed which I thought was lovely ... I'm all for tradition :D

My aunt although now in her early nineties, taught at the University in Venice and still lives there.

Unbeknown to Lorain, Stewart must have told her because the maître d at Florians new all about it and had the orchestra well primed. If you knew my daughter and Stewart you would realise how embarrassing this would have been for them, especially as the Piazza was full of Chinese tourists and their cameras at the time.

But Lorain said worse was to come as out from the inner restaurant exploded a parade of the waiters carrying a huge zabaglione with sparklers followed by my aunt and her friends, with bottles of Prosecco. Goodness knows what all the tourists thought.

However, thank you all for your very kind remarks. I am now trying to get my dear lady to persuade them to get married on board ship.

Many congratulations from me, too.

The age of romance and propriety certainly is not dead - Welshie's young man not only asked my permission to propose, he even asked, right at the beginning, for my permission to start taking her out!

John, you still haven't answered David's question about dress code and pick-up points - we have to get ourselves organised as well, you know ;)
