Dropbox

Unread post by Peter D »

Looking for anyone who uses Dropbox on a regular basis.

I have used it for years now and whenever I have uploaded a file with the same name as one that is already there it has overwritten the old version and replaced it with the new version ie, the Ports Of Call document that you have a link to as been amended numerous times, when I have uploaded the new version the old version has been overwritten and the link as always remained the same.

However, when I uploaded the new version yesterday it never replaced the old version it made a copy, so I had 2 X Ports Of Call documents. I tried a number of time but the same thing happened. So, I had to e-mail David the new link to replace the old one.

Is anyone else having the same problem. would be interested in the result, because any time I amend the Ports of Call document I will need to send David the new link.
Regards

Peter

I have used Dropbox for some time to synchronise files between my devices. The only time that I can recall it making a copy is if I have the same file open on more than one device and it tries to synchronise the two devices with the "central" copy.

An interesting feature of Dropbox is that if I take a photo on my phone it goes straight into Dropbox and is on my computer before I get home

Thank you for your reply David. It has always synced before just strange that on this occasion it decided to make a copy. I did look in Dropbox help files but nothing there so I have e-mailed them.

Will try again later.

Yes, David. Forgot I had posted on the site asking for help.

I e-mailed Dropbox informing them of my problem. They got back within a few days asking for more information, including print screens of before and after my uploads. I then started to gather the evidence and found everything was back to normal and worked as before. Do not know why it would not overwrite before but seems to be OK now.

One of the mysteries of the computer.
Regards

Peter
