Happy Father's Day weekend......

Unread post by JenniC »

... To all you wonderful dads and Granddad's out there. Mine and Steve's dads have sadly died a few years ago.

Father's Day BBQ is at my house, my son and daughter seemed to have ducked and dived and got out of it again - lol - I really don't mind though

What plans have you all got.....

Neither of us has a dad anymore, father-in-law having died in February. Son lives in Saigon, daughter no 2 lives in London - a LONG way from S.W. Wales so it will probably just be a BBQ for us, with daughter no 1 and her fiancee joining us.

We will be on Azura, but will e mail my dad. Can't speak to him at present as he has just had a throat operation and has not to speak for 2 weeks. I could ring him but I know he would end up speaking so I have told him I will e mail instead. Not quite the same but we saw him last weekend and gave him his card and present then. Garry will speak to our sons once we are on board.

My father passed away only a couple of months ago but we are still going to have a bit of celebration tomorrow. Mum, my sisters and partners are coming round to ours for a BBQ.

Don't worry if you see dark clouds tomorrow, it's just me cooking

We don't have any fathers left to spoil tomorrow, but it is my husband's first Fathers Day as a Grampy - he has his cards and gift etc ready to open, but we are just having a very quiet weekend.

Celebrate a bit more next weekend maybe.

Gosh I had no idea such a day existed. Is it really necessary I wonder?

The have days for almost anything now - either "imported" from across the pond or some creation of greetings card companies

I've just Googled Mother's day and Father's day and it seems that Mother's day usually falls around nine months after Father's day.

I wonder what I'm getting this year?

Sorry to lower the tone.

How times change. I grew up with Mothering Sunday which was a religious day. Somewhere along the way it changed to Mothers Day and later followed by Fathers Day. (Imported as David wrote)
Whilst they are days to celebrate and have become 'family' days they are non religious, pure commercialism.
To all those having their family around them have a lovely day . That time is precious.

Sorry to be a grump ;) or to be labelled a stingy Scot, :sarcasm: but I just can’t abide “Father’s Day”, “Mother’s Day”, “Easter”, “Christmas”.

They are all just commercial hype and should be renamed “St Mammon’s Day”.

Why do you need a special day to remember or recognise anyone?

Every day Is a special day. :P :P

Got my dad one of these http://www.bestdaily.co.uk/showbiz/news ... mwear.html

He's 82, but I reckon it's just the thing for popping to Tescos in this hot weather :)

Hi John,

I think I'm with you on this one - 25th December to us is a celebration of the calendar year and a time for reflection, 31st December/1st January is a time to wish well for the new year to come; easter to us is a farewell to the wintertime and a greeting to the onset of springtime.

We only have mother-in-law left now, and she says that this commercialised lark is just not on; much along the same lines as you mentioned - you can celebrate and be grateful for someone all year around really.

As I said, tomorrow is a special day for my husband, but it's going to be a quiet one.

I lost my Dad nearly twenty years ago, we had a lovely family evening last night with our daughter, daughter-in-law, son and grandchildren at which Mike was presented with a beautiful hand-made cushion, hand made by our daughter-in-law, in the colours of his beloved Oxford Utd with little hand prints, those of Sienna and Reggie, appliqued on, a very special gift from the grandchildren.
Mike has been at Lords watching cricket today and will be there tomorrow! Our son will be working so I guess I will be cooking when Mike gets back.

My Dad passed away in 1991, Brian's dad passed when he was four. Our children will be visiting Brian, along with me, as he is in hospital after having kidney failure a month ago. But he will be pleased to see everyone. Unfortunately the grandchildren won't be there. We will celebrate when he comes home.

All you Dad's out there, have a great day.
Regards
Chris
