Re: World Cup 2014
Don't forget we didn't qualify for the 1974, 1978 and 1994 world cups. 2 being pre premier league.
All our clubs in the 70's had British players not just English.
No passion at the moment and I can't see it getting any better.

It's not that we lose which upsets me. It's the lack of passion.
Good strategy by Roy Hodgson this evening. Nine changes so they will hardly get showered with abuse from disgruntled supporters. It will be interesting to see what difference the young lads make. Win or lose good luck to them.

Hi Foxy,
It's not often you can strike a win win bet but l think the 3/1 about Costa Rica beating England was too tempting to miss, so l've had a tenner on them.......won't be too disappointed if this bet goes awry
May the best team win.
Regards
Keith

Sounds a good bet to me Keefy. Costa will have the edge over us in experience but there are some talented young lads out there tonight. I'll be thinking about you.

Very difficult to play against at team that were content with a draw so all in all l didn't think it was a bad performance from our boys.

Re: World Cup 2014
A much better performance form England tonight. Wilshere seemed to have a problem staying on his feet and our shooting was a bit wayward but it was a lot better than what we saw in the previous two games. Have just been for a walk so no idea what the pundits had to say but if England had played like that in the previous two matches maybe the outcome would have been much different.
I hear Mr Suarez has been feeling hungry again!!!

Oh dear, Oh dear
So very disappointing, simply a mucking fuddle . . . . but the other match had a bit of bite to it

Re: World Cup 2014
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA has officially charged Uruguay's Luis Suarez with biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the teams' World Cup match, a process that could lead to a suspension for Uruguay's best offensive player.
FIFA announced early Wednesday that its disciplinary committee has opened proceedings against Suarez, just hours after the end of Tuesday's match.
If the panel finds Suarez guilty of assaulting an opponent, FIFA rules call for a ban of at least two matches up to a maximum of 24 months.
FIFA asked the team to present evidence, which can include video recordings, by 5 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) Wednesday.
A decision must be published before Saturday, when Uruguay plays Colombia in a round-of-16 match at Maracana stadium.

Comes to something when England's best result is a draw in a friendly just before they fly home!

Don't think it was so much of a friendly, Costa Rica going into the match still needed a point to finish top of the group and that's what they set out to get.Mervyn and Trish wrote:Comes to something when England's best result is a draw in a friendly just before they fly home!
Unlike us on the forum, the English fans who had paid good money to go and support the team in Brazil, still seemed in good spirits at the match.

Re: World Cup 2014
I think it made a big difference to the fans' mood that Roy made nine changes to the team which played so woefully in the first two matches. After all it wasn't the fault of those who played last night that we found ourselves going home so soon. I feel most people believe the 'old guard' let us down and played with little conviction. It may be that they consider their places in the team are secure as that is the impression I get. Hopefully the drive and determination of the younger players will make them think again. Although naive at times there was plenty on show last night to give hope if Hodgson gives them a chance.
Suarez? Give him a 24 month international ban. What sort of impact does he make on impressionable youngsters who look up to him as an example? If we are to outlaw spitting we should do the same for biting. Appalling behaviour. I suspect he will get an 'interesting welcome' from opposition fans next season...................

Re: World Cup 2014
Given that Suarez has served two previous bans for the same (incredibly rare) offence, I would hope that FIFA will throw the book at him - with the maximum ban possible. I assume that any ban would only cover internationals with no jurisdiction over domestic leagues?oldbluefox wrote:I think it made a big difference to the fans' mood that Roy made nine changes to the team which played so woefully in the first two matches. ...and let's hope it's not a short ban, a meaningless fine and a course of anger management sessions to address his "issues"!

Re: World Cup 2014
Agreed Romig.
Unfortunately I fear the maximum possible ban under FIFA rules may be insufficient to make much difference to him, especially as it is the third such incident. He deserves a lifetime international ban but I think the maximum FIFA can impose is 24 months. We will wait and see......................

I think it should - as Alan Shearer put it - be a case of 'three bites and you're out'...... Permanently!
