Shares - letter just received ....

Unread post by Boris+ »

I've just received a letter today asking me whether I wish to take up one of several options:

1. Sell my existing shares (and they quote a buy-back £ amount).
2. Buy more shares.
3. Give the value of the shares to charity.
4. Do nothing, just keep what I've got.

Has anyone else had one of these letters - any opinions?

Em

I had one as well. It's gone to the bottom of my 'Pending' tray. Why ever would I want to sell my shares?

I've not had one, but then again, they might reckon I'm planning on keeping them seeing as I've just applied for the extra OBC.

I wonder if this is because the share price has gone down over 13% over the last 12 months and they're expecting further falls?

I reckon I'm not going to part with mine, I'm not worried about the value of them, they are handy to have, and there's always the quarterly dividend.

Hi Meg,

The letter heading is Carnival plc - their usual logo.

Grando, if you own 100 Carnival shares you are entitled to OBC for each cruise you take with ships in the Carnival group. As an example you get £150 per cabin for a cruise of 14 nights over and above any other OBC you may get.

It is a wonderful perk which has to be voted on at the shareholder's meeting each year but long may it continue.

On top of that you also get dividends.

Just back from a P&O cruise and found an email from my nominated share account people - natweststockbrokers, saying they had sold up to a canadian company ang giving me options of transferring or selling the Carnival shares.

i will check on the genuine? natwest site and if so will probably sell my shares and close the account. Then buy another 100 shares, this time with an actual share cerificate.

Thank you OBF we haven't had a letter and thought it was extra to what we normally receive! Have to agree they are an excellent buy we have almost had the money back in OBC and dividends that we originally paid. Just about to apply for our $250 for our Princess cruise in September. Hoping we won't bump into Mandy!!

My apologies Doreen. I misunderstood what you were asking.

I suspect from now on everyone will be wanting to check passenger lists just in case!!!

Hi Doreen,

There's obc which you should be advised of at the time of making your reservation, then there's shareholder's obc which you get upon application as soon as you've paid your final balance.

I've just asked Mr Google for news on the sale of Carnival to the Canadians (or anyone else for that matter), and guess what......

I have had one of those letters as well ... first time such a letter has been sent out.
1. Sell .. not a hope, far too much OBC to be received first
2. Buy more ... not at a cost of £50, far too high
3. Give to charity ... maybe when I pop my clogs ... and only then if Carnival matches their value (like that would ever happen)

I would like to see Carnival offer more OBC if you hold more shares .. or better still allow each share holder to get OBC even if sharing a cabin (would buy some in Julies name then).

I notice the share price has taken a bit of a battering over the last few months?

No such letter received here. Nor anything from the bank whose sharedealing service I use.

Wouldn't sell the shares anyway. Two cruises booked, and a further 2 in the pipeline if the price drops to the right level.

There are lots of references on the web, on reputable sites. RBS which includes natwest bank is selling its share dealing interests in Natweststockerbrokers to its partners which are a Canadian company.

I logged on to my account (not from the email) and there is a general notice there listing the options. Clients have until October to state their preference.

I think my preferred option will be to sell my Carnival shares, at a profit, close my account and buy new shares with an actual share certificate as this makes it really simple to get your shareholder credit.

My next cruise is at the end of September so there should be plenty of time to organise everything.

All I need now is good online companies to sell me those shares. Any recommendations?

I can't remember the name of the actual company, but when I got my shares I had a telephone and email 'conversation' with Karen Hawkins, and she kindly sent me information and a link - and the rest is history.

That just means that RBS are selling their stockbroking arm.
