Should Cook be sacked?

Unread post by towny44 »

So Alastair Cook will not resign as England captain despite the worst run of results ever, do you think he should be sacked and if so who should replace him.
My own view is yes, and I would suggest there are 3 likely replacements, Ian Bell - likely to be more of the same, Stuart Broad - not sure his current bowling is good enough to retain his place, Joe Root - he would be my choice along with a clear out of the old guard and an influx of younger players who don't fear failure.

Brilliant confrontation on Talksport this morning between Piers Morgan & Brian moore 'discussing' Kevin Pietersen

I'd say that Morgan won by K.O. because Moore retreated into Solicitor mode when losing the arguement.

Yes. Cook out. Pietersen back in as Captain.

If nothing else it will liven the whole dull team up a bit

No because the Butler will leave as well, as they are married and Cook does make the most wonderful Pastries and puddings
we could at a push let one of the footmen go and perhaps the cutlery polisher, but not Cookie, no way

Do you think if we amalgamated the football team and the cricket team we could cobble up anything approaching decent. It seems both teams suffer the same complex.
Personally in such a situation I would go for scrapping the old guard who probably think they are too good to be dropped, and bring in new faces who are eager to learn and would relish the opportunity to represent their country. And that goes for both teams.

Give them an incentive and just pay them the minimum wage unless they get results.

You mean play cricket with a football so that they have a better chance of hitting the wicket - or the football team having 22 players?

Unfortunately I'm as surprised as you that they do.

They'd probably still lose. :(
It's that Johnny Foreigner who keeps beating us.

I think he needs to be rested for his own good. However, look at who is coaching the Indian team! The very man who produced the results when he was coaching England and who knows what a brittle lot they can be. Yesterday afternoon was disgraceful, a win was possible and a draw very possible until they started committing hari kari.

The morale is low because Cook is not a leader or a thinker. When your skipper is fielding at slip, and spiling simple catches off his best bowlers, and when he hasn't a clue about strategic field placing for particular opposition batsmen, then its time to get someone else.

I am not sure Joe Root is the man, and Stuart Broad is too hot headed.

Trust you to come up with something sensible Frank!!!

What is it in the psyche that we seem to suffer so many batting collapses?

Is there not a county captain with a good record on strategy and leadership? Lets face it Mike Brearley wasn't a great cricketer, but he was a great captain and he inspired our team to some remarkable results. What is wrong with Bell's batting? He normally looks so assured at the crease, now he has been reduced to playing down the wrong line, and some hari kari shots as well.

But please dont bring back Pietersen!!
