Balmoral's Doctor on Titanic Memorial Cruise.
There is a very interesting article in the Numast Telegraph this month, about the way the senior doctor on Balmoral was treated after pressing to have a cardiac patient flown ashore for urgent treatment during the Titanic Memorial cruise.
At first sight, it has scotched any ideas I might have had about doing a Fred Olsen cruise.

Is there a link to the article, Frank? I've asked Mr Google but couldn't find anything.

I found a reference to a medical evacuation, of a BBC cameraman but nothing else.

Yes OBF, according to the Doctor it was a severe cardiac. If the doctor's story is true, and I believe him, he has been treated badly for requesting an evacuation despite cardio grams having been sent shore side for evaluation by a consultant, who agreed that evacuation was necessary.
We had an engine room rating helicoptered off my first ship (it was subsequently found that he had been drinking carbon tetrachloride!
), we were loaded with coal for Germany, and had to turn round to meet USCG helicopters. I dont recall our Captain making people's lives difficult as a result.

I dont know if you can get a link to it. The paper is the Nautilus International Telegraph published monthly by the ship's officers union. They are a fabulous organisation, involved in all kinds of sea safety issues, and representing the officers at IMO, with owners, and the MCA it gives Trade Unions a good name in my estimation. I am not sure if I have your email OBF, but I will try to scan the article, and if it comes out OK I'll e mail it. You too SS if you pm me an e mail address.

Thanks for that Barbara.
It must have been bitterly disappointing for the paying passengers not to visit the location on the centenary but, hang on a minute, wasn't a man's life at stake here? Priorities, anyone?

The cynic in me says that the priorities centred around compensation for missing the main reason for the cruise.Silver_Shiney wrote:Thanks for that Barbara.

I find it hard to believe that patient might die in order that a planned rendezvous be met. It does make you wonder where the priorities lie.
Thanks for the link Barbara.
