It makes no difference as everybody turns up when they think they will under the present system.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

I presume it will have time limits put on it - for example no earlier than 12. Hopefully it will be something you choose when booking to give an incentive for early bookers. And I guess if you get to choose your time more people will abide by it.

Also, PO are introducing waiters in the buffet at breakfast time to bring you tea and coffee instead of those long queues at the machines.

Preferred check-in times are a trial. When it goes wrong they will drop it.

Haven't seen anything about it - just hope IF it comes in that it applies to bookings already made and not just for new bookings

Yes when we book it always comes up with 1530 embarkation time but when the final details are added it always changes to 1200 or 1400.

Not sure about serving coffee/tea in the buffet but, hopefully, the coffee will be better than the stuff out of the machine. We always eat and then grab a hot drink and sit outside to drink it.

Just found the P&O official page
Sounds as if there may be some changes coming to the Peninsular club in the not too distant future.

Re: P&O Pride & Joy
Thanks for the link David, it sounds interesting, but the trouble is we have to drive about 3 hours to get to Southampton and would never be able to estimate it so we arrive at exactly the right time. We always allow extra time for traffic and then if we are going to be there much too soon we stop, for coffee just outside Southampton. We have never been questioned as to what time we should be arriving and I hope this stays the same.

All these changes could be paid for out of the 52% rise in the price of renewing your vows for the 2015/2016 season.
It was £295 and is going up to £450.

Thanks for that info. I've just emailed P&O about renewing our vows on the maiden voyage of Britannia. Not heard yet. a wedding is £5,000 plus.

That's cheap! We did ours on land and it cost a lot more than that.Peter D wrote:All these changes could be paid for out of the 52% rise in the price of renewing your vows for the 2015/2016 season.

Yes - I've been waiting for that - everytime we hit the 'gold' or equivalent tier, they change the rules and back down we go - let's hope the perks improve

Re: P&O Pride & Joy
Just been reading this again and a couple of observations.
Perhaps the idea is that cabins will be ready by checkin time and if you are on time or late you will be able to go straight to your cabin but if you are early you will just have to wait around on the ship until you allotted time.
How do they propose doing that? I can only think of three ways:Now the crew have more time for you.
After two years of watching and listening, we’re about to embark on some big behind-the-scenes changes. So soon, your crew can do more of what they do best; being with you.
That’s more time to get to know you and check everything’s as it should be. All with the warm, friendly manner that keeps P&O Cruises passengers coming back year after year.
- There will be more staff - which will cost more
- The staff will be doing less work - which can only mean standards will slip
- The staff will be working longer hours (if that is possible) - not a good idea in my opinion
I know that this has been discussed at great length about the logistics of getting to the ship at a pre defined time and what happens if you are early but the clue may be in the last sentence.Embark when you want.
We want you to start your holiday with ease, so soon we will be asking you at what time you’d like to check in. Later this year, passengers on selected cruises will choose their own time to embark. (If you’re travelling on one of these cruises we’ll be in touch to explain how this will work.)
Providing it’s a success, we’ll roll this new system out to other ships in 2015. So we’ll be sure to report back. Our dream is to get you from check-in to cabin without any waiting around.

Re: P&O Pride & Joy
The main delay in fast boarding is due to the security checks, and in view of the current fear of IS Jihadi reprisal attacks I hardly think it likely they will be reducing these, and unless they completely change the current security staff or embark on a major retraining exercise I cannot envisage this improving.david63 wrote:Just been reading this again and a couple of observations.

So I am very surprised that P&O have proposed this improvement, because IMHO it is doomed to failure and will result in another major PR disaster for them.

I think that the speed of security checks is dependant on which terminal you embark from. I would agree that at Mayflower and City terminals that this can be slow but at Ocean terminal I have found it to be no problem.
Also the embarkation security process is not directly under the control of P&O - although I suspect that they can have considerable influence on how it operates.

Re: P&O Pride & Joy
Strangely David our experience is exactly the opposite, City terminal for Eclipse has always had very fast security checks, but Ocean for P&O takes ages with massive queues, and yes I do realise that they are both probably operated by G4S.david63 wrote:I think that the speed of security checks is dependant on which terminal you embark from. I have to say our check in with Celebrity ( City terminal ) was the best ever, walked straight in and to an empty check in desk, straight through security and on to the ship .. all took less than 10 minutes.

I think I am correct in saying that you clear security for Eclipse before you check in, so if there is any queuing you get it over with first, which makes it feel better. Anyway we will find out in 3 weeks when we take our next Celebrity cruise.

I can't really remember John ( think it was 2011 .. I've slept a lot since then
) I'm pretty sure we checked in first but maybe not .. whatever though it was very quick and efficient.

City Terminal does have security first, all the others have check- in first and security later.
