Alex Salmond is more likely to go for Snotties or Scotties rather than Zloties ... surely ?

Shouldn't we be holding a referendum to see if we want to keep Scotland? :sarcasm:

About 10 years ago Shrek was advocating that the Scottish economy should be based on Iceland as a model - but has gone very quiet on that one more recently. I can understand the natural wish to be masters of your own fortune, but like many a politician, he would promise the moon to get people to vote for him. The SNP are promising the electorate all sorts of enticements that Westminster cannot afford to provide - even though per capita Scotland already gets more spending than the rest of the UK. If not careful, the scots could end up being masters of their own misfortune!

Then the English, Welsh and Northern Irish can have a referendum on whether to let them back in.

Having expressed views that I would not be unhappy with a yes vote, I now find that I might have a short term desire to see a no vote.
We are going on a Celebrity cruise on the 21st, and our final on board bill will be in dollars, heaven knows what the exchange rate will be after a yes vote!!!

It has been suggested that we will need border controls in the event of a "yes" vote. As England doesn't want Scotland to leave, I trust that the border controls will be funded by the Scots...

Now it is coming to the crunch i really don't want them to vote yes, if they do i think I will be gutted. Then i might get angry. Cameron, Clegg and Milliband are all for the chop for starters.

then what do we do about the divorce terms? will it be acrimonious? Part of me thinks that some yes voters don't realise this is for ever, they can't change their minds later.

Should we make them wish they had never voted yes? We could do it if we wanted to.

From mild indifference, the Scottish question in now a prominent area of discussion amongst my friends and acquaintances, with the majority quite vocal at the possibility of a yes vote. Should our Scottish cousins vote to leave the Union, I fear there will be a very negative reaction here in England, particularly if the suggested financial meltdown effects us.

A close Scottish friend has used his postal vote to for "yes" for selfish reasons. He does not want Scottish independence and has no intention of returning to Scotland to live, but believes that having the Scots go it alone is the only way of ensuring that the rest of union will be shot of left-wing Labour governments, given that a large number of current Labour MPs are from north of the border.

Well he is wrong, a few tens of MP's only needs a small percentage change in voting intentions to be discounted.

Who knows what sort of government we would end up with given the political earthquakes that would follow a yes vote.

Just a thought......does he happen to participate in local elections wherever it is he currently resides?

No, he's registered at his parents' home for postal votes back in the land of the haggis.

Can someone please explain why Gordon Brown (who holds no office other than that of an MP) was promising Scotland all sorts of things if they vote no - how will he bring this about?

Is this the same Gordon Brown who promised financial probity to the UK when he was prime minister?

I don't care who it is contributed to as long as the catastrophic break up of the Union does not occur

That would be enough in itself to make me vote yes (if I had a vote of course) - can that be extended to the rest of the UK :moresarcasm:
