So we have to wait until tomorrow to find out if he is guilty of 'culpable homicide'

This has been a farce from beginning to end so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this time tomorrow he is a free man !!!

Well, as it happens, he HAS been found guilty of culpable homicide; which to my thinking was always the most likely verdict.

I understand that Reeva was dressed when she was shot. Surely she wasn't laying fully dressed in bed with him? So how come he thought she was still in the bed? Wrong verdict; murder. They are just saving face with this verdict. Poor girl, poor parents.

I'm inclined to agree with DK.

As Frank says .. poor girl, poor parents, I imagine there was only one verdict they wanted.

The whole thing is a tragedy, but the situation in that country is quite different - and we need to understand that in order to view this more sensibly perhaps.

I'm glad he got off the murder charge, and I'm not at all surprised that he's been found guilty of the other charge which afterall is said and done he as good as admitted to. I feel sorry for the family of the victim, but I also feel sorry for Oscar Pistorius.

Why do you feel sorry for him?? He is guilty of manslaughter and, quite frankly, it should have been murder. I'm sure everyone would agree if you heard someone in your bathroom in the middle of the night, you would check first it wasn't your partner before shooting at the door?

Not altogether sure I would agree with that 100%. Yes if it was in this country I would say you were right but we are talking about South Africa where, I suspect, the situation is different. Is it a known thing for people to break into a house via the bathroom? Has this happened before? Has it happened to neighbours?

We don't live in a culture where we have the need to have a gun beside the bed - that in itself says something about the crime in South Africa.

I know not about his guilt as I have not been following the case and only those who sat through the whole drawn out procedure will be in a position to make that call. The judge has found him guilty so according to the law he is (pending an appeal).

Some reports says she was fully dressed when shot, and she had her cell phone with her, which IMO is not normal during night time toilet visits, and if he shouted a warning before shooting, as he claimed, surely she would have answered, unless she was petrified he had murderous intent.
If he gets off with a fine or only a light sentence, I would want to keep a check on the judges finances.

He is a deceitful manipulative scumbag who should have be looking at a life sentence, unfortunately it's the parent's and family of Reeva Steenkamp who have been given the life sentance.

Lets hope he get the maximum 15 years behind bars as he deserves nothing less.

Hi Tinker,

You ask why I feel sorry for Mr Pistorius - simple answer just because I do. Life in RSA is vastly different to life here I understand, and not only would I have a gun in my bedside drawer, I'd have one elsewhere too, and know how to use it.

As for which point of entry is most favoured by people breaking in to a property I don't know, but if I heard a noise somewhere in the property which was unexpected, I'd be looking to protect myself too.

I still think it's a tragic accident, and I still feel sorry for Mr Pistorius, and I will be relieved if his sentence is in the nature of a fine.

I am aware of the problems with crime in South Africa as I have many family members who live there. I have no problem with people having a gun to protect themselves but if look at the security measures Oscar had in place plus 2 dogs, gated property, 24 hour security guards and cameras continuously monitoring the property and the guards, it doesn't add up to the actions that followed when he so say heard an intruder.

Hi Jo, Not again!

I'm probably going to get shot down in flames for this, and maybe this is a bit clumsy - but where someone has had aspirations and has worked hard to overcome problems/disabilities; then if 'life' overtakes their situation and all the dreams and aspirations come to naught - then I feel sorry for that person.

A tragedy can happen to any one of us - so, being aware of that, I can have compassion for this young man and feel sorry for him.

I'm not sorry in the least. From what I've heard he's an arrogant, selfish, spiteful individual with a vicious nasty streak. You cannot fire four times through a door knowing that someone was on the other side without wanting to do them extremely serious harm. I hope his life is now ruined.

Sorry, Em but I totally agree with QB on this one. He has had an awful disability to overcome but so do many, many other people but this young man has let celebrity go to his head to the extent that he thinks he can get away with anything.

You said 'sorry' - don't be sorry, you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, and you phrased it so charmingly.

Oh well, thank goodness the sentencing is out of our hands - all we can do is agree or disagree with it. I do have to comment however, that it is unfortunate that the media had to make such a three ring circus out of this whole event.
