Running out of e mail addresses!
Greetings all,
Great to be on this site ( after a break of at least 40 minutes)!
This is a serious query... I understand that to protect the suet from spammers etc. there is a need to have site security; the problem is every six weeks or so I get a message saying I have to log in again and change my password. Needless to say I have forgotten what the password is and then I get sent a new one which I attempt to put into the change details page & all hell breaks out. At this point I usually open a new account...but I'm now down to my last e-mail account! Anyway, I'm back on the sit but wondered how other members manage their passwords etc for this site....or is it just that I'm incompetent. ( it's the reset/ submit button that causes the problem, also which old password do you use)
Heigh ho.
Regards,
Steve

How strange, I've only ever had to change my password twice a year ( as is required ) and it has always been simple to do so, I'm sure David will have an answer to your query but I wonder if others have the same problems.

Ranchi,
I have the same trouble every time it happens to me!! Last time emailed admin (not heard back) but have somehow managed to get back.
This time have managed to keep my same screen name, but have absolutely no idea what my password is!!!

There is nothing set up in the system to make you log in again every six weeks - the only security control is that you change your password every six months.
If anyone is having problems then please email me and I will try and sort it out for you

I cannot recall anything from you but there have been a few problems with email over the last few weeks. It may also be that when I saw your email you had already logged back in.Princess wrote:Last time emailed admin (not heard back) ...

I updated some of my spyware thingies and it removed my cookies (amongst other inconveniences...) and try as I might I couldn't get in.
I emailed for a new password - it arrived within minutes. I logged on and then changed my password to one I can just about remember - generally at the 2nd attempt!

Thanks David,
I could well have managed to get in before you had chance to look at my email. But how I did it I have no idea!!! And know I will have the same problem again!

David, only today I inadvertantly logged off, due to the logoff button being too close to the board index button, and then when I tried to log back on it told me I had exceeded my attempts and I had to solve some riddle or other, despite it being my first attempt.
After several abortive attempts I did manage to get back in, but more by good luck than my own genius,

Log in attempts are cumulative meaning that you could have had some failed attempts any time in the past.towny44 wrote:David, only today I inadvertantly logged off, due to the logoff button being too close to the board index button, and then when I tried to log back on it told me I had exceeded my attempts and I had to solve some riddle or other, despite it being my first attempt.

That seems a bit harsh and very confusing David, not sure I like a totting up procedure akin to points on my driving license.david63 wrote:Log in attempts are cumulative meaning that you could have had some failed attempts any time in the past.towny44 wrote:David, only today I inadvertantly logged off, due to the logoff button being too close to the board index button, and then when I tried to log back on it told me I had exceeded my attempts and I had to solve some riddle or other, despite it being my first attempt.

It is nothing personal but it has to be done that way to try and prevent spammers - believe me you do not want to see the havoc that a spammer can cause on a forum.towny44 wrote:That seems a bit harsh and very confusing David, not sure I like a totting up procedure akin to points on my driving license.david63 wrote:Log in attempts are cumulative meaning that you could have had some failed attempts any time in the past.towny44 wrote:David, only today I inadvertantly logged off, due to the logoff button being too close to the board index button, and then when I tried to log back on it told me I had exceeded my attempts and I had to solve some riddle or other, despite it being my first attempt.

Ever since I started using LastPass for my passwords all of these problems have been taken out of my hands. However it does not work on tablets (unless you pay) so it's just as well to store your popular ones somewhere safe and perhaps have something easy to remember.
I was taught to be cautious

For what it costs to pay to use on a tablet it is, in my opinion, worth it for the convenience - particularly as it is tied in with Xmarks so you can synchronise your bookmarks as well.
