Up until now I was hoping for a No vote since I think a Yes will be bad news for both Scotland and the rest of the UK. Also I think Salmond is a smug self-serving (something I can't write on here) who needs putting in his place.

However with all these promises of new powers for Scotland if they vote No I'm not so sure any more. The next to last thing I want is a Yes vote. But the very last thing I want is a No vote with Salmond and his cronies spending money they don't have and me picking up the bill. If they are to get more tax raising and spending powers there needs to be an end to the subsidy they get from the rest of the UK, currently around £17bn a year.

I still think it'll be a no vote

But I'm almost hoping for a yes vote, and after Scotland leave the Union it goes horribly wrong, Salmond is humiliated, and Scotland beg to rejoin. But the rest of the UK denies the request, as we don't want to clear up the mess.

If the Scots get the YES vote will that mean they will have to come into the REAL world, and start paying prescription charges and university fees :sarcasm:

Should I buy shares in law firms? If there is a yes vote it is going to take years to unravel everything, eg national debt, North sea oil territorial areas, pensions, welfare, need I go on. Since clearly the major winners will be the lawyers, and of course they will seek to muddy waters just so it takes even longer.

Well I still hope that the result will be a win for the NO vote, I just have this nagging doubt that the 'yes' people have thought it through properly.

Better together.

my god, they are throwing the baby and the bath water at the scots now! :wtf: it would be nice if after appeasing them they ask the English whether this is okay..an English parliament promise might be a good start, if the scots do vote yes.

Is the 'result' going to dominate the tv at the end of the week? What system is being used - first past the post like a general election? Will it be reported 'seat' by 'seat' like in the general election, and the glorious 'swingometer', or just an announcement of the final result?

hi em, surely with only two answers to the question, it should be a full numerical count and result. along the lines of the eyes to the right 2.5million the no s' to the left 2.5million, (only obviously more accurate than that! ;)
regards gilly.

You can guarantee the BBC will make a full scale production of the vote, probably with lots of reporters live at various counts, and with endless discussions about how the vote is going and what their prediction is.
Probably a good job there is only one item on the ballot paper.

and practically? Has anyone actually decreed what the "pass mark" is? If it's 49/51 either way, the winner is not going to have a clear mandate.

Doesn't matter, the result is final, for a generation at least.

You know that, QB, I know, but will the losers accept it? I can't see Salmond giving up without a fight.

He has said that he will, but he's not expecting to lose.

One more vote than the other side will win it. this will result in endless recounts.

I presume given independance that the BBC will give us as much news about Scotland as they do about the Republic of Ireland.

The public service broadcasters are not going to like it. All those north cumbrian viewers insisting they get ENGLISH TV

The post office will have to put Carlisle back in England and not in Dumfries and Galloway as it is now.

The Royal Mail deleted counties from their database a few years ago
