How was your UK Summer ?

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Mine was fantastic

Poole Bay was alive with the "Sound of Worldwide Grockels"

Even persuaded a Scottie to change his NO vote to a YES

How about that

On the whole it's been great, our son and his partner home from Vietnam for a few weeks, mum eating again, the garden taking shape, but tinged with sadness at the death of aclose friend - a surrogate family member - and the Stone Setting memorial of my father-in-law who died in February.

We have much to be thankful for, not least the fabulous weather we have had here on the Gower Peninsula.

hectic - started with a May cruise on Adonia, continued with a short break in the Cotswold and on through helping OH's cousin celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary to going off to a Mothers' Onion Conference in Swanwick later today (so it'll be quiet in here for a few days.....)

Oh and JD is off travelling again next week - to India while her big sister is on jury service - though she's been relocated from the Old Bailey to Croydon Crown Court (about which she's a bit peeved cos "less likelihood of a juicy murder" ....

Meg - I'm reading your entry fairly early in the morning and I sat here and thought what's a Mothers ONION Conference - it made me laugh and brought tears to my eyes.

Enjoy your onions

It feels as though we missed out on something - and the something in question was cruising. A bad dose of 'hospitalitis' badly cramped our style (all my fault), but our lovely beautiful little granddaughter gave me something to focus on, and now it's all plain sailing.

I wouldn't like to repeat summer 2014 - and I am going to be glad it's over.

Looking back over the summer I have to say it's been a good one for all sorts of reasons - lovely weather which means my garden has never looked better, fabulous cruise with the family :D plus a cruise around Britain going to places I haven't visited before. Spending time with my sons and grandchildren is very important to me and watching them grow up gives me so much pleasure I feel I am blessed. This year I met a lovely couple courtesy of this forum and am looking forward to meeting up again in the New Year in the Caribbean - yes it's been a good year

Summer? Lovely. Started early with a cruise in the Adriatic April/May.....lots of time in the garden.... a trip on the train to Bristol Zoo with two little boys... many meals outside in the evenings, ... another train trip this time to Torquay and next week we cruise in the Black Sea. It will be October when we return, will the summer be over? Would that every summer could be as warm and sunny, it has made such a difference this year. Blessings should be counted.

Very busy. Five voluntary jobs keeping me on my toes, but on the good side, I got the OK from Prostate tests which had been worrying me. (PSA was 2.1). Sue and I are closer than ever, (she is stunning), and we have lots of lovely friends to go out with.

We hope 2015 sees us meet up with all our cruising friends. On here and elsewhere.

Mean while enjoy your Indian Summer while it lasts.

Isle of Wight next week Maureen! 5 days at West Bay Club, and lots of walks between Cowes and Gurnard, over Tennyson Down, and a trip to the Medina Arts Centre in Newport. We are really looking forward to it.

So pleased you had a positive outcome from your tests Frank. I had a similar scare earlier in the year but got a clear bill of health from the oncologist. On the back of it I booked another cruise even though we have only just come back from one. Situations such as this make you realise you never know what is around the corner and to make the most of every day.

My FIL always used to say, 'If you wake in the morning and can open the windows, can see it's raining, can hear it's raining and you know it's raining - it's a good day!' There's plenty of truth in that.

After a difficult couple of years where we seemed to be attending too many funerals for those we love we have had a good year and have made good use of the good weather this summer. Irrespective of the weather life is what you make of it.

Absolutely right OBF. Sue says "every day is a new beginning, make the most of it, rain or shine". We are running a bridge drive for Mission to Seafarers on Saturday so it is baking all day tomorrow, and sandwich making Saturday mornng. If there are left overs it could blow my diet  !

Frank - You will probably get very good weather on the Island next week because we are going to Sheffield and the Island always has better weather than where ever we are visiting.

Enjoy your visit.

Maureen.

Hi Maureen, its been quite dismal the last couple of days 'up north' although we've had beautiful sunshine this afternoon, the regional weather forecast for next week is looking quite promising so it might be Sunny Sheffield for you :D

I'm meeting SueSpud in York on Saturday and we already have 'Plan B' in place just in case of bad weather, it poured down the last time we were there which meant we had to stay indoors and drink 'Fizz' all day

Meg - in my extremely dozy state, having just got up the other day and read your thread , I must admit my first thought was why would anyone want to go to a conference about onions - doh!

It did eventually sink in - I'm not exactly Brain of Britain first thing in the morning.
