Good eating place near Macdonald Botley please/

I don't want 'fancy' food - just something light-ish and plain and simple. Any ideas for an evening eatery then for the area near Macdonald Botley Hotel?

There's a decent chain restaurant (can't remember which chain) next to Tesco just off J8 of the M27.

The Botley park Hotel itself is not bad. The manager their used to treat me to luch until she left for better things.

That's plenty of choice - I thought that as this hotel was in a small place on the Hamble there might not be much around in the way of eateries that I can manage.

Yes, that's the Swan I'm thinking of. The Botley Park Hotel is good - we went there for my dad's 80th over 20 years ago, it seemed very posh.

There is a very good fish and chip shop in the centre of Hedge End!

A fish and chip shop used to be a really great idea - there's simply nothing better than traditional stuff from a chippy, preferably eaten straight from the paper out doors - and when people asked if I'd eaten, I could say that I'd 'had a meal out'.

We got caught out with the meal in Southampton before my birthday outing recently, and so for the next outing I'm doing a bit more planning. Note though - the overnight in Southampton was all planned very last minute and we couldn't get in to our usual hotel - we live and learn.

Yep, we're off on Tuesday! I'm really ready for a holiday now - I made drinks at the office yesterday and, after stirring in their sugar, put the dirty spoon in the fridge.....

Alan, We just came back from the Canaries so if you want any port info just ask. If you visit Gran Canaria the beach resort of Las Canteras is within easy walking distance of the port, it has a long beach front backed by a newish promenade with lots of restaurants and cafes. Very level and easy for P's wheelchair.

Many thanks for that.

First stop is Madeira, arrive morning, depart afternoon, where we've booked the Scenes of Madeira excursion at 1300.

Next is La Palma, arrive early afternoon, leave early evening. Looking to walk into the town, but mum's getting frail and can't manage much hills, so advice on that would be welcome.

Gran Canaria is next, again looking to do our own thing.

Lanzarotte - we've booked the morning excursion to Mountain of Fire, and hopefully go into the town in the afternoon.

Lisbon, we're planning on riding round on the HOHO buses. I believe there are two different routes, so hopefully we can do one in the morning, return to the ship for lunch and then do the other one in the afternoon.
