"We'll be running rings round watford, come next year" a chant I often heard at Kenilworth road.

The chicken sheds were alive to the sound of 'appy 'atters and Eric Morecambe. Those were the days - Ricky Hill and Brian Stein terrifying defences.

Re: Football 2014/15
Mobey you philistine! 1959 was the year Luton were beaten 2 - 1 by Notts Forest in the FA cup. I was 18, and distraught for Syd Owen the skipper and centre half who should have played for England but Billy Wright kept him out of the side.
Boxing day 1970, they were so far ahead at the top of the 4th Div that they could have stopped playing and still been promoted. They had a winger called French who always played a blinder in the 1st half but had shot his bolt by half time, and the manager was Alan Brown. Thats when I first heard the song "We'll be running rings round Watford in the 3rd".
Ricky Hill and the Stein brothers were good. Malcolm Macdonald was their real star, Alec Stock brought him to Luton, great player, and utterly fearless. However Ron Baynham (England), was also one of their greats.
"Come on you 'atters."
Note; for purists of the English language, neither the h, or the t s are sounded in Luton

Now then Frank ...
Actually I have quite a number of ancestral connections with Luton but that was then and this is now although maybe one day we will be able to trade experiences.
Did you know that The Hatters are also Stockport County ?
Footy wise we are, just for today anyhow, top of the Championship pile ... and you are still wallowing in the glory of the 50's.
Did you also know that the No 321 bus used to go from Watford to Luton ?

A good day for everybody on here but not for us. We had our chances but squandered them and were then sunk by a sucker punch. At the moment we seem to be lacking that extra bit of quality but there's plenty of time yet and plenty of teams in a worse position than us. However we need to improve.

Went to see our boys today and for 35 minutes we were top class, lost our way a little just before half time but still far to good for Blackpool and worthy winners in the end.

Towny, you've got a good coaching team and manager there. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see 'Uddersfield getting better and better.

Blimey, the part-timer went to the game!towny44 wrote:Went to see our boys today and for 35 minutes we were top class, lost our way a little just before half time but still far to good for Blackpool and worthy winners in the end.
Can only echo what John said - a magnificent display for the first third of the game. In addition to the three goals we did score before half time, their keeper made three top saves to prevent it becoming a rugby score. They got back into it through a good direct free-kick, and we switched off to allow them a second just before half-time! A solid, if not spectacular second half got us the forth goal to give us breathing space again.
QB, I think you are correct about the management/coaching staff - things are perhaps looking up....10 points from the last 12 is good form in anyone's book. I notice that Saints squeaked a lucky close win!

Satisfactory
A point away is a point away, but still no victory on the road.

More than happy to take a point at Riverside : whew :
Out of interest ..... TWWAB said that the Rams had an ' off day ' ?
Not too sure about that, could be that some teams will have learned how to play them as was the case last year for us Hornets. Beating Blackpool last week by only a penalty cannot inspire their players re keeping Top Spot ... but good luck to them, there's no disgrace coming second

Lost again!!! We seem to be very naive at the moment and making careless mistakes. You can't be doing that in the Prem.
Pleased to see the ex City players are doing the business at Huddersfield.
I see Bournemouth knocked in a hatful of goals this week following Southamptons from last week. There's hope yet for Pompey!!!

Went to watch the Terriers destroy Forest yesterday, if we are not careful we could become serious play off contenders.

Towny,
My OH just read your post ( a Forest and County man ). He reckons you have a good manager and you could get some good results.

The Terriers are on Sky this lunchtime in a Yorkshire derby against Wednesday, I hope they turn in a good performance and get back to winning ways.
