Password change misery

Unread post by anneed »

Just been through my usual ordeal of trying to reset my password on this site. I always have to get David to come in and sort it out for me.

Do other people have these problems?

Could it be because I use the site on both my work and home computers?

Isn't there something about an automatic reset every six months?

Hi Bob,

Well I suppose that's what I get in a mess with. It may be automatic but it still relies on you being able to type in your old password and confirm a new one.

This is what I do. Or think I do. And yes, I do try to remember my upper and lower cases.

And every time it refuses to let me in.

Still, you know how hopeless I was regarding my TV programming! By the way, that's still ongoing. Panasonic say changes to Freeview have messed up the EPG on some older TVs. They are looking at sending me a 'patch'. Unless it's a piece of sticking plaster I probably won't know how to use that either.

On our Panasonic, selecting DVB, the Freeview programmes do not all show, ie some do but most do not. It also has Freesat built in and the EPG works perfectly using this selection, the set by the way is only a couple of years old.

Try pushing the curser to the right to highlight the ( invisible ) programmes for the next hour or more and then push the curser left to return it the actual time ... et viola they appear as if by magic ... sometimes.

I sympathise deeply.
When I haven't been on here for a while I always get into a pickle. I have recently changed my passwords all over and can I remember which is which, no!! Then when I do try to change it it says you can't use the one you have used before but that was the one I was trying to use when it locks me out!!!! Ahhhhh.... Give me strength.

I'm afraid the only way I can remember which password is my current one for this site is to write it down - but I do write it in code of course - now all I have to remember is what is the code! I was reading today in the paper that your banking and shopping passwords should be changed every TWO months! Well I don't use the internet for banking - yes I know thousands of people do but after hearing my husband moaning when he is doing internet banking I don't intend to do it - I shall stay a Luddite!

Carole!!! Luddite!!!!

I have now taken to using LastPass to take care of all my passwords except those I use for banking or anything to do with money. Those I keep in my head (which is worrying!!!). I was very wary about using anything like LastPass but it's safer than storing passwords on the computer and if I want to check on a password I can find it with just one master password. Simples!
I was taught to be cautious

Simple precautions are all that is required, for example ...

Write each username plus their passwords in a ledger type book, every 3 months or so change each of them in turn and then annotate each change of password in the following column. All of the passwords should be unique of course and never be repeated. Each should contain several numbers plus case sensitive letters, a minimum of eight will suffice but ten is ideal. Once the passwords are completed simply lock the book away in a Wells Fargo safe, one of those ' alias Smith and Jones ' types are very suitable providing it has been embedded in reinforced concrete in the basement of the house. The Password Book can be on its own shelf and therefore be separate from the 150 Escudos that you had left over from a previous holiday plus those three out of date paying in books that you keep meaning to throw away ... and Great Grandmother's rings of course in the Sharps Toffee tin.

Hope that helps

I had the same problem. David set up a new password for me. I didn't write it down. Was sure I had remembered it correctly. I did not work so got a new one again. Too complicate and tried to change it to something manageable.... cannot find a way to change it!!!!!!
