Not much to do for Xmas here as we'll be on Aurora, sailing 21st Dec

Same as us, except it's Arcadia, sailing 20th December.

I've never been on holiday at Christmas before, so this'll be a new experience

We are away from early December so whilst there are no Christmas preparations at home I still buy pressies and send cards and have to fit in pre Christmas visits to family and friends so I couldn't even think about leaving everything until the last minute.

So, guess it's just me that's WORKING xmas day AND boxing day..!!! Still it gives me great pleasure locking up crims at this time of year after all they say xmas is a time for reflection, well they can get behind their door and reflect why their there.!!!!!

Why not start a countown for Christmas 2015 whilst you're at it?

In my opinion it is bad form to mention Christmas until after Remembrance Day at the earliest.

I agree- only this year my birthday is the day after remembrance day - so not til after that, but this is the last time we'll see these rellies this year - they live several hundred miles away! Nowt else is being done

As for 2015.... Plans are being made already...

My turn to do lunch for 15.
Trying to asses if we will still need 4 high chairs

Just because I'm planning what I have to do,doesn't mean I have any less respect for Remembrance Day!!

Just because I'm planning what I have to do,doesn't mean I have any less respect for Remembrance Day!!

But that's the point. It's not Christmas yet, not by a long way. By the time we get there we shall be heartily sick of the whole thing and Christmas will have lost its special feeling before we even get to December. I accept perfectly well that some people absolutely love it but this endless run up spoils it for those of us who like to keep it as a special few days at the end of the year.

I've had years of not being bothered about the festive season, and have now come to terms with a situation where we celebrate (quietly and happily) the end of the year - and it's a time for reflection.

However, it's been one heck of a roller-coaster ride for us this year - nearly lost 3 generations of the family this year, so albeit quietly it's a bit of a time for a celebration this year; and as we all have plans to be away at different times a bit of planning is required.

No, we are not going to be trudging around supermarkets with numerous trolleys full of food and booze, there won't be many extra decorations, but there will be a whole lot of extra gladness and happiness - and that's worth celebrating.

I will hold off my usual festive season greeting though until mid-November.

I am not particularly fond of Xmas as our family is spread across the country and trying to visit just means driving for hours in what could be horrendous weather. We now just go away for Xmas on a cruise.

It means I have to be more organised as presents still have to be bought and wrapped and cards written, as well cruise clothes bought or cleaned pressed and packed.

By the 1 st December I should be able to forget all about Xmas and concentrate on our cruise. I will be working up until the day we travel so need to be organised early.

Ok..I understand...but Christmas doesn't just happen...!!
We have lots going on in December. Lots of family traditions..things to organise for a large family.

It's no different to planning a holiday/ cruise...it has to be planned. Things to do.

Far too early for all this talk! We usually bugger off with P & O to the Caribbean and don't buy any presents. Use all that money that would have been spent on rubbish pressie's (that will end up stuck in a draw until it goes on Ebay or to a charity shop) on upgrading flights etc. I shall be sulking and beside myself this year at home Roll on Britannia xmas 2015!

At the start of December, I will be sorted, cakes made, puddings made..etc, trees up..presents and cards done.
Then during December I will be able to have fun with my grandchildren...go to all their shows, take them to the panto...take them to see the crib in church.. Go see Santa, ( a few times)go carol signing in the local home....read lots of Christmas books...watch seasonal films on TV, sing along with all the Christmas music in the shops...do crafty Christmas things... Finish my knitted hats...bake Christmas cookies with them...make fudge with them... Wear our Santa hats and aprons..and jingles our bells...
Learn the babies all the Christmas songs.

I would love Christmas at your house Sue so ignore the bah humbugs, those that aren't interested in the build up to it can be as miserable as they like .. I don't see those of us that do enjoy it disagreeing with what they want to do.

So, most of my gift shopping is all done and dusted - just waiting for a wrap and write day now. My problem is that I want to get things for granddaughter's first festive season, I'm trying to find out what other 'main players' are getting her so that I'm not inconsiderate; I do wish they'd make their minds up!

But - for all of you lucky people who can do cakes and puddings (which we don't do) - more power to you, get stuck in and enjoy.

I make 3 cakes, 3 puddings, mincemeat and rum truffles. They go down very well at wolfie towers!

I used to make a lot more of the above for friends BUT I am now older and wiser on that front!!!
