Hi Andrea,

Yes, I know - and I can't wait for the 'making' days! We are hoping to look for a new main home, and when that happens I've already declared my hopes for a space just for little one to have for using paint etc in.

There's all the different times of the year when projects/craftwork will be proudly shown and lovingly given by our little one, and we are really looking forward to it.

No tree for us this year as we have a six month old 'darling' of a kittem/cat that would probably destroy it in five minutes. I will instead be 'borrowing' a road works bollard this year and painting green 'Bah Hum Bugs' all over it just to keep in the festive spirit of things

Stuff tradition, the weather......and the large chicken and other assortments which I will be BBQ'ing Christmas day, no doubt with some liquid refreshments to keep me company

Christmas decorations I have seen commercially available in the past weren't what I wanted then, but now I want something a bit different and not quite so 'grown up'.

Maybe I'll just look for some ideas and get a bit arty/crafty - granddaughter is too young to benefit from the experience of planning/designing/production, but we'll wait and see a little while yet.

Meanwhile I've got some Norwegian design patterns to use to embroider various bits and pieces for the home (table runners, napkins and chair backs etc).

What I really fancied was something along the lines of the German Nutcracker type theme for the tree itself - but I don't want to intrude into himself's shed/workshop.

I wish I'd thought about that earlier in the year!

Sorry to correct you, but currently I'm most certainly not 'far too south' - heading even further north soon if you need to know; and what on earth does location have to do with anything?

I really can't see what is wrong with the phrase I used - but it seems to me that other people just want to be a bit 'ornery'.

I have never been aware that one had to be Yorkshire born, bred and resident to use certain phrases - it was innocently used, and I can't see the problem for the life of me.

On the other hand, I could have said 'good grief' - and been picked at for that sounding wrong too.

Meanwhile, it's a glorious time of year, a time to revel in the wonderful seasonal colours - and enjoy the luxury of a warming soup after a brisk crisp walk.

I don't think anyone said you had to be Yorkshire born and bred to use certain phrases Em if that was directed at me, if you read the posts Meg said she thought the phrase was used further south, being from Yorkshire I said to the best of my knowledge it was a Yorkshire term, where has anyone said you shouldn't have used it

Now, now Q Bob we do have to be thinking about Christmas in fact I have just packed my Christmas decorations bag in readiness rather than leave it until the last minute before we sail off.

What a good idea Jo taking some of your own Christmas decorations with you .It must make your suite look really festive. I do sometimes buy flowers through Cunard before we go, to be there in the room when we board, but have never been on an actual Christmas Cruise.

I wondered when the decorations are put up throughout the ship and if one was to go on the cruise before the Christmas one would they be there then.

Anyway hope you have a lovely cruise as I am sure you will and a very Happy Christmas.

I'm afraid I don't know what 'ornery' means is that a 'made up word' ..

I thought it meant ordinary, but looked it up on the offchance - WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've had a couple of outings which we refer to as mid-December, and the festive decorations have most definitely been in full swing.

Also, we've had festive organised sing-songs in the Grand Lobby area which have been great fun, people have packed santa hats and festive tops/jumpers so it's all been really quite jolly.

I've never seen any festive decorations in the accommodation corridors though - maybe people wait until they are on an actual festive week outing before they do that.

We've not had a rough outing in December yet, not even the BoB.

As you can probably imagine the Cunarders are very tastefully decorated for the festive season, and QM2 has had a festive grotto also.

It certainly does Anne or I think so, my small Xmas tree has travelled thousands of miles over the years, other things tend to get replaced periodically although I do have some very nice decorations that I have bought when we have done Christmas Market cruises.

We’ve done a few back to back cruises at Christmas and the decorations are usually up, last year I think we went around the 10th and they were up then, the Chefs do a wonderful Gingerbread Village and I seem to think that was also done before the Christmas one, the whole of the ship looks really lovely both Cunard and P&O.

Come and join us one year I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Em, I'm not sure what the ruling is now with decorations outside of cabins, I always used to decorate the door but two years ago on QE everyone was asked to remove them, the reason given was H&S .. yep I was confused too I didn't bother last year and I did see the odd door with a small decoration on it but nothing like I've seen in the past.

I've never done a decoration onboard - either inside or outside by the door; and I'm not going to start now.

Not being bah humbug, I just don't - just like I don't put lights outside on terra firma (or in the window etc).

As for inside the accommodation - I like everything to look tidy, so flowers, decorations - no.

Funny how you remember things because I thought I remembered you saying this time last year that you would be looking for Christmas lights for outside so I've just had a quick look on last years Christmas thread and yep lo and behold you said exactly that
