We have a Starling that is a regular in our garden. We call him Josef.

We also have a crow called Russell and a blackbird called Diana Ross. ;)

The starlings used to roost in a tree lined road in Cheltenham town, they cut down the trees, and so no starlings.

I believe they still wheel and dance around the Somerset levels.

Now then, where are all the sparrows? Lots of dunnocks (hedge sparrows) but no House Sparrows in my garden.

Have wood pigeons got poor eyesight? They keep flying into my windows and leaving a perfect impression of their bodies and wings.

My dearly beloved was handy with her Rolleiflex, and shot, not literally, the Autumn display of thousands of Starlings filling the evening skies over Poole Bay

Very proud that her "pics" were published in several National newspapers

Hence my Thread

Where have they gone

Lubooo U all

There are still a few around Graham; Bournemouth/Poole, although nowhere near as many as there were. We have a few with noisy chicks in attendance attacking the fat blocks which we put out in the spring. I believe that RSPB are attributing it to scarceity of grubs, their staple diet for the chicks, which we have eliminated in our over manicured lawns. Cats are responsible for the decimation of many birds. There is a big black and white cat which frequents our garden and lies in wait for birds. I have scored a couple of direct hits with water pistol, but he keeps coming back.

The cat probably thinks 'food and a shower afterwards, I've never had it so good' :)

We went out to try and get some shots of a murmuration - but all we had was a nice walk and some photos of a bird of prey, a chopper and a Cessna.

Maybe next year!
