The build up and anticipation is usually better than the actual day However, on reflection, yes it was worth it especially if you have little kids or grandkids. Even for them it doesn't seem to have the impact it had on us. Many get toys throughout the year so Christmas loses its appeal.
We used to draw up lists of what we would like and got one of them (as opposed to all) plus the usual Beano Annual, slippers and selection box plus dad's sock with an orange, an apple and some nuts. And for that we were so excited it was hard work getting to sleep.
Anybody remember those chocolate tool sets you got after the war. There was hardly any cocoa in them, just an awful fatty taste. You had to be pretty desperate to eat it. We did!!!

It was nice, quiet but nice. NYE was - a bit of a washout later on, as having been out all day and had a fab time, we went to bed and fell asleep - so missed the fireworks!

Was it worth it. Dunno really.

Nice Christmas lunch with the family, boxing day lunch with friends. Lovely. NY made it's way in at midnight without our attention. Decs down on Friday. House looking tidy again. Glad we are getting back to normal, and Pointless will be back on the screen every evening!!! (TV pretty dire throughout the holiday)

Unforgettable for me, but not one of celebrations.

I was working Xmas Day, Boxing Day, Saturday and Sunday then off for the Granddaughters 9th birthday on the Monday .

We had a celebration get together at the beginning of December to make up for it.

Xmas Day, Went to see the Grand children with their presents and then to work. The Granddaughter was rather quiet but we put that down to her excitement.

Boxing Day started as a bright sunny day, Granddaughter wasn't well and was waiting to see the emergency Doctor. I went to work.

Then the 'fun' started. 5.00pm it started to snow. At 7.00 pm OH said he was setting out early to pick me up. At 8.00 pm he rang to say he was back home as the police had blocked 2 roads off. The night shift relief was on her way. but was having to walk as the buses had stopped running.

A phone call to say Granddaughter was being taken to hospital but the ambulance was struggling to get there.

My relief arrived and I booked a taxi to take me home. A 2 hour wait turned in to a 4 hour wait and then I was told the area had been blocked off. So I had no option but to stay where I was. No problem in getting to work next day as I was already there. A taxi took me part way home at 3.00 pm leaving me to walk the rest of the way.

Granddaughter was being observed but her Mum was told it most likely wasn't meningitis. Pure panic at that word.

Sunday some roads were open so arrived at work and also got home with no problem.

Granddaughter had a severe reaction to the medication she was taking for tonsillitis, phew she was doing ok.

Her 9th Birthday was a blur but she was home and managed some ice cream.

Now back to a normal routine.

Xmas has been and gone but I still have my tree up. My Mum would have been 100 tomorrow so I thought it fitting to have a drink in her memory with the lights shining bright.

Crikey Andrea how scary for you all, wishing your grand-daughter a speedy recovery.

We drove back from Southampton last Monday and I thought all the stories we had heard about bad weather were a joke until we reached the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire boundaries we had it pretty bad didn't we.

What a nightmare Andrea, and what a worry. Children put us through hell sometimes, but we just love them all the more. Hope it all turns out OK for you all.
