We used to know someone whose dog was trained to sit and wait for grace to be said before he tucked in.oldbluefox wrote:But they didn't say grace!

Re: Feeding Time
All the dogs that we have owned have always waited, until told, to eat, or to take a treat.

Re: Feeding Time
We have always trained our dogs not to touch their food until they are told to ... but it has backfired on us
We got severely told off by the owner of the kennels for not telling her that our dog had been trained to only eat on a trigger word ... not quite true but that is how it appeared. Apparently our dog did not eat for 3 days despite being starving and having the food set in front of her. In the end the girl that owned the kennels said, in front of our dog, that she was going to get the 'vet' ... as soon as the dog heard that she emptied the dish ... the girl thought the trigger word was 'vet' so used that and every day our dog ate it's dinner normally.
What we actually said to her was 'GET it' and we had not realised how 'programmed' the dog had become to it. The reason we had trained her like this was because one day she had been in the garden chewing her bone when one of the neighbourhood kids decided to take the bone of her ... our dog snarled and snapped at the kid .. fortunately did not actually bite him ... but it scared the kid ... after that Julie and I spent many hours teaching her not to tuch her food until told to ... we just didn't expect that if she was left alone with the food that she still wouldn't eat it.
