My greenhouse, which has given me many hours of enjoyment - plus a lot of vegetables as well.

A tumble dryer which we bought with some cash we brought back from our holiday in Oct/November. Any spare money usually goes back into the bank but we arrived back on the Island in a terrific thunderstorm/torrential rain and in the taxi home I said to my husband we are buying a tumble dryer tomorrow and that is what we did. Funnily enough, I've only used it a few times as the weather hasn't been too bad and I use it mainly to dry the sheets and towels but it is lovely to know that it is in the garage if we need it.

Two items - my new camera which I am going to thoroughly enjoy in 2015, and a 'welcoming gift' for new baby granddaughter on the day she was born.

Like Stephen, l would have to go with my barbecue purchase...you needed a degree in engineering to a assemble it but the end result was well worth it....Just can't understand why l had so many nuts and bolts left over  :)

We bought a coffee machine too, Anne. It's one of those that takes loose coffee and then slurps away making crema and froth. It's not as quick as instant but the coffee tastes a lot better and coffee making has become a bit of a routine every morning. It's probably the most significant thing we purchased in 2014.

My best 'buy' was to upgrade our cabin to a C-deck balcony on our Ventura cruise last September.

A new summer house that has been treated and needs no maintenance, to replace the cedar shingle one that had stood there for about 50 years.

The new "Beach Bum" Doug Hyde sculpture I got for Julie ... the number of Brownie points that has given me can not be counted ... I am hoping to milk the entire year out of those :)

Probably our last purchase of 2014 - on New Year's Eve. A big 3D Smart TV and 3D Blu ray player. All plugged in now - fantastic. As was the price. :)

That's what I call a good purchase.

I'm trying to convince my financial advisor (wife) we need a bigger TV
