First steps .....
I know it's soppy, and I know that loads of others on the forum have already 'been here', but we've just seen our little grandchild taking her first steps.
It's like winning the lottery, we're so excited.

Trouble - yip, that's for sure! Not so much long endurance activity as really quick spurts of activity to catch up with little miss!
Must be good for weight loss!

Re: First steps .....
Hi Sue,
As part of her xmas present we gave her a little 'truck' pushalong toy which helps walking and it's the sort of thing to put bricks and blocks in (wooden ones). I'm sure you know the type of thing.
Well, she now stands herself up and does the length of the lounge - but she hasn't learned yet how to turn around! So, 'baby sitting' today is going to be quite active.
I think I need a holiday!

make the most of the peace - it can be up to 4 months before a baby is brave enough to let go of the 'truck' and walk unsupported!

Boris, yes we have one of them...for Max and a wooden pram for Ruby.
meg, Harry didnt walk till he was 15 months.
but when he got up to walk...he ran.... never toddled, just ran everywhere!
William..age nearly 10 months..is no where near walking. Just crawling.
he is a huge lump!!
weighs over 25lbs (although not a fat rolly polly baby, just big)..is in 2 yr old clothes and taller than Max and Ruby who are nearly 2.
Having the 7 of them is so interesting..the different ways and different time scales they all have in their development.

Re: First steps .....
Jack is 16 months and for a couple of months has climbed the stairs, climbs on and off the settee, pulls himself up and walks along the furniture. Will he let go, not likely.
As Sue mentions, they do develop in different ways and at different times.
Jack isn't talking either, his few words are, daddy, tea and no. Is having a 9 year old sister who senses his needs the reason.? He only had to point and she would get it for him.
He copies everything Chloe does, if she is doing her homework he has to have paper and a pencil, if she is knitting he helps by holding the ball of wool.
Between bath time and bedtime Chloe has always read him a story, now if he gets sleepy he fetches a book for you to read to him.
I am sure before too long he will decide to get moving himself and will probably talk in sentences rather than words.
I think it is a blessing having healthy little ones who will do things in their own time.

I had 13 months between my Son and Daughter. ( she was premature ). He walked at 9 months but my Daughter was 18 months. Looking back it is strange but they were very very different for the whole of their lives.

Andrea, the twins (22 months)are much the same. Ruby talks and chats all day. She repeats words, sings, very noisy..lol
Max however, will not repeat words...But can say words very clearly. He just comes out with a word, says it once, but will he repeat it for you.....no way.
Ruby, is a proper toddler, very independent little madam, Max is still very babyish, loves cuddling up on my snuggler. Both very bright...know exactly what is going on and respond to being asked to get coat, shoes..tidy up etc.

Re: First steps .....
At the moment she's really pleased with herself at being able to push the walker/truck down the lounge, and she loves 'first stage' climbing onto the settee (she can stand up but can't quite get all the way up onto the cushion unaided).
I don't mind waiting a couple of months - I can be patient. Oh but she's so pleased with herself and smiles and gurgles and giggles - it's wonderful.
