Marco pierre whites pubs go down on the Norfolk Broads

Unread post by Ray B »

The new year did not get off to a good start for PandO celebrity chef Marco Pierre White as four of his pubs in Norfolk have the administrators called in. The pubs - Wayford Bridge Hotel near Stalham, The Acle Bridge Inn near Acle and the Chequers Inn and the Lifeboat Inn, both in Thornham, north Norfolk - are part of Horatio Inns Limited of which the television celebrity chef is listed as a director. The report goes on to say that the development is the latest in a difficult chapter for Mr White, who last year sold his flagship Wheeler’s of St James’s pub in London.

He also sold the Pear Tree Inn in Whitley, Wiltshire, amid reports it had been subject to a mass staff walkout.
Still it looks like Pand O are helping to still keep him afloat

Not sure what Garry is doing these days - he does not have a London restaurant any more

I will second wolfie's post. Bring back GR, always had a great meal in his restaurants on board.

Fish'n chips is fish'n chips no matter how you dress it up on the menu and charge a fortune for it just because the chef happens to have been on the telly!

I saw similar in his Picadilly resturant, Stephen.

Fancy names but basically it was pie & chips and charging £28.95 for the privilage

I've tried his resturants on ships and liked them, but never on land.

Tried Café Bordeaux on Aurora before it morphed into the Glass House and thought the meal was not a great improvement on the fare in the MDR. The Glass House is much more of an "experience".

We were totally unimpressed with his restaurants on several of the P&O ships so are not at all surprised to discover that his Pubs are also going down the tubes ... old hat and lacking creativity.

As for ' Bring-back Gary ' I bumped into him ( albeit unwittingly ) in a restaurant owned by a n other nr Malmsbury, Wilts ... said owner has now relocated to their excellent ' Weybridge Brewhouse ' venue in down town Swindon.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

We've never been keen on MP-W select dining offering on the ships - not expensive cover charge but not sufficiently different from the usual dining. Would much rather pay a bit more and get something more special. Interesting that P&O has dumped MP-W in Café B in favour of Glass House on Aurora with his menu now featuring on Gala Nights in the MDR. Perhaps that's a sign of things to come.

The Glasshouse concept is not a direct replacement for a MPW restaurant for the simple reason that it is not a cover charge restaurant. It is a bar that sells food, a nice bar which does not suffer the endless quizzes and loud music that plagues other bars aboard. The wine is good, the food is good and and you can even sit at the bar and drink beer if you want.

I hope P&O don't spoil it by introducing a cover charge just to get in.

I realise that Dave. My point was P&O have dumped MP-W from that venue.

funny everybody on here seems to be against marco piere white on here as we went to his place on Aurora last year and on oceana in November this year and on both occasions they were full and we had a lovely meal.
probably not posh enough for some.

It would help if MPW had some interaction with his "customers". He is well renowned for ignoring people and I believe that when he on board any of the ships he rarely goes round to "chat" with the passengers - unlike Atul, Garry et al
