Warner Leisure Hotels

Unread post by Romig1 »

We're thinking of booking a "Twixtmas" break at one of these hotels (possibly the one in N Wales). They are providing some decent tribute-act entertainment - the one we are looking at has Ricky Arthur as Michael Buble (we saw him on a P&O ship, I believe).

Has anyone been to these hotels - how do they rate?

Hi Romig

I am off to Warners at Alvaston hall in Cheshire next weekend for my birthday. Have been once before but they have recently revamped Alvaston hall so it will be interesting to see the difference. This seek I have been telephoned by both the customer liaison manager and the spa manager to enquire if I have all the info I need and is there anything else they can do for me. P and O take note. We are booked in for a 60s weekend so hoping the entertainment will be good. Iwill be happy to report on my return.

Several times a year I go with friends to Thoresby Hall for a 2 day mid week spa break. So far I havn't managed to get the OH to go but I think it is a lovely break for a couple. Your daytime activity depends on which hotel you choose but if you just want to chill out it is a relaxing break. The evening entertainment can be 1 or 2 acts plus dancing and although unknown names we have never had a bad act. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Yes, that will be quite interesting to me as well because a number of travelling chums on a 5* Coaching Tour of the UK were less than impressed with this Hotel during the summer, 2014. Conversely I stayed there a number of times in the late 80s / early 90's and it was excellent.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Interested to hear views on this. We're considering the hotel on the IOW for a week next year.

We're also wondering about trying a break with Warners

My friend went a few years ago, and enjoyed it, but all the other guests thought she worked there as she was at least 20 years younger than everyone else !

We collected some friends from the Bembridge Coast Hotel in the summer and they showed us their room - they were very impressed with the accommodation and so were we. For ease and convenience you would need a car if staying there independently.

I've done both Thorsby Hall and Bodelwythen Castle on 5 night breaks and they were fantastic. Both had an A La Carte restaurants where the food was outstanding.
In Wales we were not far from Llandudno or many other places of interest.
It's a few years ago, accommodation was in either a new block or the old Castle. There is a purpose built indoor bowling area and many guests are on competition breaks.
The acts we saw were very good and they did a Casino one evening but you didn't use money. Good fun but as I did quite well it was a shame it wasn't using money.
I know many ex work colleagues who go 2-4 times a year to different ones. Nidd Hall by you is very popular.
Hope this helps

Thanks Maureen. That's exactly where we're thinking of going and will be going by car. So looks like that's a definite to book for 2016 when the half price and Saga deals come out at the end of this year :D

One of my wife's relations goes regularly, she always reports she is having a great time.

We were thinking of going to Nidds Hall, some time this year. Although have to a 7 nights holiday (not Warners) to St Ives in Cornwall to do first, which I booked a couple of days ago. It was that or a 4 nighter at Nidds Hall.

A useful tip, when obtaining a quote, there is a box to type in a code, if you do not have one, type in the word Team, and compare the quote price.

I originally saw this tip on Martin Lewis site, the guy who is the money expert. It's discounted for team members who ever they are, but It works for everybody.

We chose Alvaston Hall as there are 4 of us all meeting up from different parts of the country and this seemed quire central, especially as I am coming on the train from Swansea and I can travel without having to change trains. All 4 of us met on a cruise and have continued to either cruise together or meet up at a Warners. We all pay singly and this time at Warners there was no charge for single supplement and we also got an upgrade for a very good price.

Well I Said I would report on our weekend break at Alvaston Hall, nr Nantwich. There were 4 of us all travelling from different parts of the country. We could check in from 2pm onwards as we had signature rooms. On arrival you drew up in your car and the warners arrival team took your luggage marked in with your room number and off it went, you then drove your car round to the car park . This was large but some distance away a problem for one of our group who has a mobility scooter, however once sorted you went into reception to check in free soup was being offered.

Cannot fault the rooms a six foot wide bed with all the usual tv, dvd player, hairdryer, large wardrobe , tea and coffee making facilities and also a small round table and two easy chairs. There was a small patio area with table and 2 chairs but not for use in January. The bathroom was adequate but I thought it could have done with a upgrade. The main problem throughout the hotel was the heat - way too warm my bedroom wasnt too bad but the others were much too warm.

There were quizzes and archery and rifle shooting available, a small charge for zumba and aqua aerobics. Warners have spent a large amount of money upgrading this hotel and there was a large lounge bar with bifold doors overlooking the front of the hotel this was lovely but on arrival friday very noisy.

Now this is where is starts to fall down some, the staff in the fountain bar were under pressure with service , when you ordered food especially , lunch arrived with no cutlery or even dirty cutlery. Same in the main restaurant - there were 450 approx guests and the restaurant is mainly a carvery with a few dishes served to the table. Our waitress was lovely but had too many tables to deal with it took over 20 mins just to get a jug of water. Food was very lacking - out main complaint was that most of the food was cold both which came diect from the kitchen and that from the carvery. First night the other 3 had soup all took only one spoonful and declared it tasteless. Second night 2 of us had duck - I could not even get my knife through it. We did pass on our feedback to the retail manager and we were given free drinks. We did wonder if there were complaints on the first night as on Saturday evening there were lots of men in suits over seeing operations. However sunday redeemed the break and the food was based on best of british it was hot and delicious. Breakfast was more of the same lukewarmarm mostly.

So overall we did the enjoy the break mainly for the company but would not go back there again due to the poor quality of the food and service.

You describe it well Whynd1, it's not any different at other properties either .

And they're not cheap to stay at by any means. Prices go up, standards drop and you don't get the little complementaries that you use to. We got the impression it was charge the maximum and deliver the least

Many thanks for the report, food is very high on our list so Warners are deffo ' out ' as far as we are concerned but good to note that Alvaston Hall is looking better than hitherto.

In this day and age they should be able to provide better, albeit at a supplement perhaps

We went to look at Warners at Littlecote Manor a few years ago, with a view to booking, but it didn't appeal to us at all. Maybe we had enjoyed ut too much as it was pre Warners, but we felt they'd ruined it.
