Did you visit the fudge shops in Windsor and Eton?oldbluefox wrote:Very true David. One of the wheels on our suitcase 'collapsed'. We can even buy a replacement wheel on the internet although at a price I am not prepared to pay!!
Talking of Nespresso pods we have just come back from London and went into the Nespresso shop on Regent Street, near Piccadilly Circus. I cannot believe how they have managed to sex up what is essentially coffee in a handy little tub. It was all very attractive but the price for plastic boxes to hold the pods and any other 'essentials' was eye-watering. Very clever presentation, beautiful eye-catching colours with clever lighting and shop design. I was very impressed but prefer my coffee maker otherwise I could have easily been enticed.
Back to the internet.................... Considering what we can do and find out, internet has been a godsend. My whole week in London was planned through the internet, from researching, pricing and booking the hotel, finding a good price for rail tickets and booking online, booking shows, researching museums and getting all the opening times and prices for everywhere we wanted to visit. None of this was possible pre-internet.

Re: How did we do it before the internet?
The internet really came into its own for me when I broke my ankle and was confined to either bed or settee for two weeks before I could even get about on crutches. I was able to do all the food shopping and have it delivered and buy other things I needed. it did mean of course that someone had to be around when deliveries were made - eventually when I was on crutches I had to put a note on the front door saying - Give me time to get to the door, I'm on crutches - otherwise the delivery person was long gone when I got to the door! Oh and I didn't ask my husband to do the food shopping - he would have come back with all sorts of things that he thought were better than the articles on my list - I've done that before!
I also use the internet to order everyday things like J Cloths - proper ones that used to be in that shaped packet that I can't find in the shops anymore. I got a packet of 50 for less than £11 which I thought was good value as they used to be sold in packets of 5 and were quite pricey but they are so much better than the other makes of cheaper ones which are around now and they can be laundered and used more than once.
Quite often I am able to order things which I would never have found if I went into my nearest town - Southampton - and wandered around all day. I find it invaluable doing Christmas shopping. So all in all I am very grateful for the internet.

I find it lets me carry on being independent and not relying on others when my arthritis is bad..re- shopping online.
Found it invaluable searching for stuff for daughters wedding. Would never have found the silk flowers I was looking for to make the bouquets/table decorations etc.
Downside is though too much choice !!!
Too much info, takes me ages to make up my mind..lol

So you can decide how NOT to decorate your rooms? whether to have monogrammed pillows or whether to board in or have spindles on your banisters?suespud wrote:I spent hours doing just that Jo, when I was in Caswell..had hours to kill.

I may be nosy, but I do love looking at other people's houses, it's just too tempting being able to. And after all, they can look at mine.

Whenever a house or bungalow goes on the market in our village, I always have a look - sometimes I'm surprised at the interiors, sometimes not. I've had a few decorating ideas from looking before now - especially the tiles in our last kitchen lol. It also gives an idea on current values.

Re: How did we do it before the internet?
The bungalow across the road from us has just gone back on the market ( it has been rented for the last year until they did a moonlight ) the reason it was rented is because the owner was asking at least £80k over what it was worth .. the minute I saw the for sale sign I was on the internet and I'm delighted it has a more realistic price on it but tbh looking at the interior photo's if I was looking to buy I wouldn't even consider it unless they were prepared to knock another £20k off .. needs a new kitchen and bathroom but I suppose vacant possession is a plus.

Do you watch the property programmes - like Homes under the hammer?
They all seem to homogenise everything - remove any character and decorate in shades of magnolia
