Two stores not too far away from us going, but no great loss as their main superstore is still available, not that we use it much these days as Morrisons is nearer to us and which we prefer.

You can tell that list of planned stores was written by somebody anglocentric. Those in England include the part of the city, or the county in which they are situated. Those north of the border, just show the town and 'Scotland'.

No doubt the author also wonders why the SNP is doing so well in the polls.

Even if they had elaborated on the scottish locations, it's doubtful many south of the border would be any wiser.

No still safely in Englandshire.

Is that why the SNP aren't doing well here?

And I thought the joyous Mr Salmond thought he was going to rule Westminster. Could be tricky without the English vote!

......and probably not interested either, which underlines my point.

For the record, I am not Scots, nor do I like the SNP. I find Alex Salmond and his former sidekick (& now successor) equally odious. Indeed in this household he is known as 'Shrek',

However, having grown up in Scotland, in the Dunfermline area (if anyone knows - or cares - where that is) I am well aware of Scots sensitivities, and the things that are guaranteed to irritate them - and thereby provide ammunition for the nationalists.

Three of the stores mentioned for Essex were only at the planning stage, Manningtree and Walton stores faced a lot of opposition. The Walton store would have killed the high street, which is virtually the only shopping street they have, and is already very run down. Manningtree is not much better.
Colchester has 2 major Tesco stores, so don't know where the proposed new one was planned for.

We are only a fairly small town, we have a large major 24 hour Tesco's store, 2 x Morrison's, a Sainsbury's, Aldi and a Liddle, and one of the two Co-op stores is being converted to a Large Asda complex, there is also talk of a new major Sainsburys being built to replace the small high street store.

Delboy,

Very similar. We live outside a smallish town in NE Wales. They have: 1 X Tesco Extra, 2 X Tesco superstores, 1 Sainsburys, 1 Morrisons, 1 ASDA, 1 Aldi, " X Lidl, 1 Co-op, M&S Food. With talk of a new Sainsbury a little further outside the town.

Then we have 1 Tesco, I ASDA, 1 Aldi and 1 Lidl about 6 miles away.

A bit of an overkill of supermarkets. However, Tesco is closing one of our superstores.

Unusual or not

A previous delightful Westbourne, Bournemouth church has been tastefully converted, keeping the stained glass windows and gracious wood carvings into a Tesco Express

Sunday congregation . . . standing room only :?

Can you send a few over here? Within our 8 mile radius we have a tiny M&S much akin to a cupboard, 1 Morrisons, 1 Sainsburys, 2 Aldis, an Asda, a little Tesco and an Iceland.
....................... and loads of sheep!!!

Although we have all those stores locally, the store we enjoy shopping in the most is Sainsbury's at Colchester and that is 14 miles away.
The store is massive, and as somebody said to me a couple of days ago when we were discussing it, yes but it's a days outing to visit. :D

Well today we took a trip to the Colchester Sainsbury's, Mrs Delboy accidentally bumped our trolley in to this guy's basket, who was bending down at the time, he looked up and said sorry. Turned out to be Stevi Ritchie, the over the top singer and dancer from the last series of X factor. Did not have Simon Cowell his new bestest friend with him. :!:
