I think you're right Dennis. I'm due for my annual eye test soon which will no doubt cost me.

Re: Scottish Power
Scottish Power are cr*p, to put it mildly and definitely no longer for me. Their web site is useless and their telephone support make BT child's play. If I could have physically got hold of someone they may be dead by now

Re: Scottish Power
Don't touch them with a bargepole. They are in trouble with the regulator for poor service. The should have taken on our Village Hall in October, because they can't sort the computer system out we are still with our old supplier BG and now on their dearest tariffs.

Re: Scottish Power
And don't touch Eon. My late uncle was with them and when I tried to take on Power of Attorney for him they couldn't have been less helpful.
In the end and after a few hard words they told me to send in my paperwork which I did by recorded delivery. They didn't return it so when I contacted them to say it had not been returned they nonchalantly told me they didn't know where it was and it could have been lost in the post. I asked what they were going to do about it and they virtually told me that was my problem and nothing to do with them. They are a disgrace and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
Fortunately I got in touch with the solicitor who sent out another POA at no charge otherwise I was sending it to Eon.

Re: Scottish Power
I had only applied a couple of days ago Meg so no problem regarding cancelling within the 14 day time span.Meg 50 wrote:so did you actually switch - or have you seen the light in time?
What happened was they sent me an email this morning saying my on-line account had been set up and gave me temporary login details. No problem logging in except I kept getting the message below saying 'Something Went Wrong' after I was logged in, you don't say. After trying later I still got the message so decided to contact them on the free phone number. What a nightmare, more option buttons than Cadbury's that obviously didn't match staff or departments as all I kept getting was moved onto a different number with, you guessed it, the same options. Scottish Power said it looked like a web site problem, but I would have had more chance getting through to God than the web team.
After what seemed an age and buy me now fuming I thought F'@/,8&!z[ it, they can stick their energy where the sun don't shine and started the same process again only this time to cancel, again being sent in never ending circles. One chap by this time got the short end of my tongue. However, I finally managed to get through to a bod who has now put the cancellation in motion and I should get confirmation the next few days, hopefully! I have a reference number and will be on them like a rash if I haven't heard anything by Tuesday.
I have also contacted my current provider explaining the situation and instructing them not to allow Scottish Power to switch me in case they try it on.
As I told one person at SP, if you can't get it right from day one what message is it giving customers. Bunch of to**ers

Good, as they probably wouldn't know how to connect it.

Re: Scottish Power
Do I assume you're not changing then, Stephen?
Have a look at Ovo. You have to submit readings every month, the online site is a doddle, you get charged only for what you use and get 3% interest on any balance on your monthly DD. For me it has been so far, so good. Good luck!

After yesterday's experience I think I'll leave it for a while. More trouble than it's worth.

Re: Scottish Power
We've been with Scottish Power for a couple of years now & like Towny we haven't had any problems, just switched to their latest deal without any penalties saving us ££ on our annual consumption ... ours is all done online & not had a problem yet, the good thing is that when a bill is produced they tell you if they have a cheaper product
Is it a coincidence that Towny & us are both in Huddersfield
Scottish Power also immediately refunded the amount we were in credit when they did the annual review, was a bit silly TBH as we were bound to be in credit over the summer months but better in our bank account
I do a comparison check every now & then but at the moment Scottish Power are the best deal for us

Re: Scottish Power
Another company to look at is First Utility - we have been with them for a couple of years now. When we switched from BG we had the inevitable phone call and when I said who we were changing to he just gave up and said that there is no way they could match their prices.
I think that these days there are two distinct groups of suppliers - the "bid boys" (BG, Scottish Power, EON, et al) and the smaller players who can give better prices because they do not have the overheads that the big boys have.
It is also interesting that with all suppliers that they charge different prices in different parts of the country which means that just because supplier x is better in the South they may not be the best option in the North.

Re: Scottish Power
Do you think perhaps SP feel sorry for us and give us a good deal and better service, OR that Huddersfiels folk are more intelligent and computer literate than most?Wina G wrote:We've been with Scottish Power for a couple of years now & like Towny we haven't had any problems, just switched to their latest deal without any penalties saving us ££ on our annual consumption ... ours is all done online & not had a problem yet, the good thing is that when a bill is produced they tell you if they have a cheaper product![]()

Re: Scottish Power
OVO it is. Just statarted the switch over process.
Time will tell if it was a good choice. Good saving if we get it though.

Re: Scottish Power
Stephen, All my comparison sites say that SP currently have the best deal for dual fuel and on my consumption they are £31 pa lower than Ovo. I know you thought their CS was poor, I also accept they are not brilliant, but to be honest they are not too bad, I currently have an issue with the monthly DD amount, but I hope to get that resolved shortly.Stephen wrote:OVO it is. Re: Scottish Power
Interesting I just input my meter readings for this quarter's bill and after SP had done its quick calculation it finished up by asking me to increase my DD by £17pm, based on its computers estimate of my annual usage. However I still think my figures are more accurate and, as the website allowed me to amend my DD I did setting it back to its original figure. This was accepted and I have now had a confirmation e-mail thanking me for amending my DD to the original amount I was paying, my phrase not theirs.

Re: Scottish Power
I'm with SP too and last time I put in my readings my DD came down by £15. I think it's mainly because we had our daughter and grandchildren staying here last winter/spring while their house was having a major building job done, with Son-in-law camping in the building site to supervise and for security. So our use of hot water for daily baby baths and electricity for endless washing and drying shot up. And we couldn't turn the heating down when we went on hols. Now our usage has dropped back it's taken them a bit by surprise.

Only a £15 reduction for stately M&T Towers, hardly worth bothering with!

Scottish Power tried to put our DD up from £140 ish to £198. I think not!
We went back to OVO and we now pay £130 and remain in slightly credit!

Re: Scottish Power
Be careful girls, although it uses the imperial title “Scottish Power” and has a central office in Glasgow, it is owned by Iberdrola. This is a Spanish public multinational company based in Bilbao with major outlets in the USA and Brazil.
Let me stress it is not a Scottish Company before any of you start having a go at me again!
