Really really fed up

Unread post by Whynd1 »

Am fed up, well thats an understatement. My lovely ford fiesta went in for a service and mot this week, had to have new tyres put on and that was it. The man at the garage said that 3 coil springs were showing signs of corrosion but not to worry this time.

Last night my husband sat in the car to move it off the drive an I heard the loudest bang and a crunching noise, well we are both outside now in the dark with a torch and it seems that the front drivers suspension has gone. The lovely rac man has been this morning and its a common occurance with fiestas who do low mileage the suspension just drops. Its un drivable and has been towed back to the garage where it had its mot. The fuuny thing is the one thats gone it the only one not flagged up on the mot- he says they missed that !!!

So we are now looking at having them all replaced as it seems they can go ata ny time so on top of the original £400 we could be looking at another £400-£500.

Also my closest friend is on the sun princess in the pacific and im veru envious as it cold and wet here in Swansea.
Well thats my vent over and done with.

It's lovely and sunny here in Costa Del Maldon. I'm thinking of getting the barby out. Am I helping to cheer you up Whynd1 :P

Look on the bright side, you could have been miles from anywhere when this happened, luckily you were at home.
I would use a different garage. There's a big difference between starting to corrode and about to collapse. They must have been blind not to see that the suspension was so bad that it was about to completely give up.

Sorry to hear about your 'Fessy' suspension. My wife's did exactly the same thing - driver side coil went with an almighty BANG! We were lucky in that we have a friend who fixed it for us and we paid £90, including having it collected on a flat-bed. That was for both front coils and it only took a couple of hours. It looked a bit odd because the front of the car was about 3 inches higher than normal until it settled.

You say it's a known bug with Fessies that do low mileage, well my OH only does about 1200 miles a year! We bought another one last week (from the same friend) and it's absolutely immaculate. It'll do more miles than the old one because I no longer have a company car.

It's a bit worrying that the MOT station missed the one that snapped.
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Hope you get the car sorted satisfactorily, and you've managed to get the boiler up and running, especially in this cold weather.

Hi All

Well everything's sorted the British gas engineer came this morning and has repaired the condenser boiler so we now have a nice warm house. The car is back and now has 4 new coil springs although they garage said the back 2 did show some signs of corrosion but did not need replacing we decided to have them all done and yes they did give us a very good deal and couldn't have been more helpful. They rang us first thing just before 9 am and had the car on the ramp and had checked the video of the mechanic doing the mot ( interesting that). Was all done by late afternoon.

Have to pay the balance of my 5 night Arcadia cruise in the next few weeks so that will be nice to look forward to.

Pleased to hear everything is sorted, Whynd. I always find things go wrong as soon as we book a cruise - Sod's Law, I guess.

Good that you're all up and running again. The speed of the turn around with the garage tells me they new they had messed up which why they wanted to keep you sweet.
