New cycling excursion

For anybody doing the Round Britain cruise there is an exciting new excursion although not recommended for those with poor balance!!

Details here. Well worth watching even if you're not interested in cycling.

If you go to Flåm, P&O (and probably other cruise lines) offer a tour in which you go up the Flåmsbana on the train, and come back down by bike. Given the gradient in places, you could probably reach quite a speed: - and when we were there last August, we came across a bike stuck in a tree some 10 feet above the ground!

This excursion reminds me of the film '127 hours' where this chap took his bike into the Utah mountains and ended up having to cut his arm off having got it stuck between two boulders.

It reminds of an article I have been reading about Jimmy Chin, who is a photographer, climber and skier, It was a talk he was doing for National Geographic about a film he had made re a mountain climb, to the peak of Meru, which had never been reached before, although many had tried it. The photography in it was astounding.

He also mentioned a climb they did to the top of Mount Everest, and then they skied back down it, some of the photos of the the sheer drops are just breathtaking.

I have read before and seen videos of people who bike up and down Mount Snowdon, but never re people skiing down Everest.

I am in awe of these people who perform these death defying stunts not only for their skill and self belief but for their nerves of steel to even attempt such feats. I am happy to watch their videos but I think my days of any feeble attempts at adventure are over.

Sorry Keefy. I will have to decline your offer to repeat this cycle tour by tandem since I remain unconvinced that, given the rear seat, you would actually be pedalling. Besides would you really want 5 miles and 4500ft of climbing with my rear end in your face?!!!
