A brief glimpse of Spring at last.
We ventured for a long walk along the Castleman Trail today, and it was really pleasant. Then we came home and the garden beckoned so I cleared up a few things; moved a few pots around, forked around some shrubs, and fed the birds....Spring is coming at last.

The rhubarb is showing through so Springtime must be imminent.

I loathe January with a vengeance. They are always much happier days when the sun rises early.

I thought you changed them last year, Graham!!
Had you seen the snow flurry yesterday afternoon in Carlisle you would have thought winter was back with a vengeance. We were trapped in the garden centre for half an hour waiting for it to pass over. Sadly it was that wet slushy stuff so it didn't settle for long.

We walked the other end of the Castleman Trail yesterday, but it wasnt quite as nice; very muddy. It is raining heavily at present in Poole, but at least it is mild, and the birds are chasing each other around the garden like mad things.

Definitely spring now the garden is full of colour with daffodils, crocus and snowdrops and we have some stupid marigolds who refused to stop flowering last autumn and have accompanied the winter flowering pansies through Dec. Jan. and February oh and the primulas have showed their face in the last couple of days. Last autumn I had to trim a Blue Moon rose that had suffered storm damage which must have induced it to bud again and when we had two beautiful rose flowers on Christmas day I thought I was going mad but they soon wilted.
Strange thing nature.

We have got an osteospermum that has flowered right through since last summer as have some of the forgetmenots, and more incredible, a couple of nemesias in pots, that have flowered continuously for THREE YEARS, yet they are supposed to be annual summer bedding plants!
All our daffs, crocuses, primulas etc are in bloom and it gives such hope that warm days are on the way.

Had my first bike ride of the year that did not involve being subjected to rain, sleet, snow or hail (had all four in the same day a couple of weeks ago).
And some gardening earlier today. T-shirt, no jacket. Could have got away with shorts.

Re: A brief glimpse of Spring at last.
It was such a nice day we had a walk through Cockermouth churchyard!!!! There was a reason though inasmuch as at this time of year it is carpeted in crocuses and what a beautiful picture they were. For a while we stood listening to a robin which was literally singing its head off. How lovely it is to hear the birds singing again.
Last week the lawn had a light trim just to get rid of the tously bits. I notice many of my trees and shrubs are in bud. All we need now are a few warm days.

Sat down the garden basking in the sun with a beer both Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes. Started off lovely this morning but now overcast. Rain later this afternoon which is needed to wash in the lawn treatment

Thanks for the offer but I planted me tomato seeds yesterday and there's a lovely girl called Alexis at BBC South who tells me all about the weather every night
