How was it for you......the Eclipse
A non event here, a layer of cloud obscured any hint of the sun, no change there. It went a bit gloomy around 9.30 and that was it.

Here on the Gower it was very good. Tony went to a Governors' meeting at the local school where they had a Physics Professor in from the University, talking to the children about it. So he got to look at it through the special telescope and said it was amazing.

Just a little gloomy in Hampshire. We went over to France near Amiens for the one in 1999 and had a wonderful view in the open countryside so I'm not too bothered about missing this one.

Apparently it looked like this round our way - but I'm blowed if I saw it. It didn't even go that dark ! What a let-down

Re: How was it for you......the Eclipse
It was very bright and sunny here this morning and unfortunately I didn't have the glasses to be able to look at the sun so I first tried the colander method to project the sun onto a piece of card and then punched several holes into another piece of card (all very Blue Peter
) and that was successful. I have taken photos but not sure how to upload them - I am having a "senior" moment

Pretty much a non event in Derbyshire
it went slightly darker but had you not been waiting for something to happen you probably wouldn't have even noticed.

Re: How was it for you......the Eclipse
We had a sea mist so apart from it going very gloomy for a while there was nothing else to see. Thank goodness I didn't waste any money on buying a pair of those special glasses. There weren't any on sale around these parts so they must have known there would be 'nowt worth seeing'.

Now, a picture of you waving a colander around in the garden - that would be worth seeing !Jan Rosser wrote:It was very bright and sunny here this morning and unfortunately I didn't have the glasses to be able to look at the sun so I first tried the colander method to project the sun onto a piece of card and then punched several holes into another piece of card (all very Blue Peter) and that was successful. Had a good view of it in Derbyshire, perhaps DQ was just in the wrong bit, a bit of cloud but that meant you could look ,without having to wear a colander on your head full of pins

Since the so called eclipse it's as if someone just flicked a switch weather wise.
It was 6 deg and cloudy this morning. This afternoon it's glorious blue sky and 14 deg. Spooky

Chesterfield DK, it was sounding quite promising on the local news last night and around 7.30am this morning we had blue skies with very little cloud .. by 9.00am it was all cloud.Dark Knight wrote:Had a good view of it in Derbyshire, perhaps DQ was just in the wrong bit, a bit of cloud but that meant you could look ,without having to wear a colander on your head full of pins
Same here Stephen we've had sunshine and blue sky for most of the day just not for the few minutes or so when we needed it

No show on the Isle of Wight either. My friend's 2 grandchildren had to have the special glasses at £4 each to be able to go out in the playground if they wanted to see the eclipse. Waste of money but the children probably had more fun messing around with the glasses.gfwgfw wrote:No show in rural Darzet

Great show here, clear blue skies for the duration and I used the cave man approach of two sheets of paper, one with a pin hole and also the colander method to view the partial eclipse. Glad we didn't book a cruise just for this. Hope the cruisers on a cruise just to see this saw more than cloud.

Re: How was it for you......the Eclipse
Last night's TV prog ' Stargazers ' showed the whole thing from non event to a telescope view from Jodrell Bank, nr Macclesfield, plus the total eclipse as witnessed in the Faroe Islands. Main conclusion was that I didn't have to waste £4 x 2 on never to be used again glasses

Re: How was it for you......the Eclipse
Just returned from them yonder hills of Wales where, contrary to what Stephen would have you believe l was opening up our caravan
Enjoyed three glorious days of sunshine which made for ideal conditions to watch the solar eclipse. The eclipse itself was a little dissapointing as l was expecting it to get a lot darker than it did, also, l was also expecting that errie silence which l've experienced on the two previous occasions that l have witnessed a solar eclipse ... alas neither matirialised ...all a bit limp.... as my wife would say
Shame for all those who paid good money to watch the none event in the Faroe lslands.....for a lesser amount they could have come to keefy's caravan and got 'solar' bacon and sausage sarnies thrown in.
Regards
