We are currently listing 'gemstones' in the alphabet quiz and it just got me thinking ...

What is your favourite gemstone ( or for the gents .. what does your wife like )

They say 'Diamonds' are a girls best friend and I wouldn't disagree but I also love Emeralds which just happen to be my birthstone although that isn't particularly significant I just happen to like the colour green but then I like blue and red too so sapphires and rubies are up there at the top too.

This is what Wiki says about my birthstone .. hmmm not sure about the foresight, good fortune or youth

I adore diamonds, less keen on rubies and sapphires, but emeralds are quite nice. I do have a rather nice tanzanite ring that we bought in Aruba, but it's a little more snug than is ideal, and because it's only 14 carat gold, jewellers here won't touch it. I need to take it into a store in the Caribbean, whenever we are able to get there again - which may be some time because of mum's ill health

PS my birthstone is pearl and I have a very nice necklace and two lovely pairs of earrings, but I am not a pearl fan so I seldom wear them.

Gill, there is a great guy in St Lucia in the shopping mall ( over the side where the market is ) Columbian Emeralds recommended him in fact I think all the jewellers there use him, he is on the upper level of the mall and will do alterations/repairs/change batteries etc while you wait and charges peanuts.

Jo. My Birthstone is Emerald too and my engagement ring is an emerald. What is my favourite gemstone? Trouble is I like them all!! Has proved quite expensive over the years. )

Obviously Diamonds, otherwise Deep Amethyst and Aquamarine (my birthstone). I agree Jay it has proved quite expensive, but worth it I think

My wife wants a big memorial stone when anything happens to me. However she seems to be looking in the jewellers rather than the monumental masons!!!
