It's Top Gear, not the Clarkson Show - I'm sure most of said 350 million will get over it !!
I am sure they will, as will both the BBC and JC.

I see May has hinted since the decision was announced today, he may also not continue working on the programme.

Not bothered re the rights or wrongs of the situation, but personally think It is a backward step, one which will cost the BBC millions of £s.

For me that's the end of Top Gear as Jeremy Clarkson was Top Gear, it was him who took it from being a nothing programme, to having a world wide audience of over 350 million.

They will never get anybody to replace him without changing the whole philosophy of the programme, and nobody who would be able to attract the same viewing figures.

A sad day for top gear as a programme, as for JC I guess he will be off to pastures new, probably together with May & Hammond.

Absolutely Derek
At the end of the day they had no other option really. In the long term I think it will be a blessing in disguise for Jeremy who will no doubt go onto big and better things. As for the BBC and Top Gear, its a black day and one that will probably cost them dear. Time will tell.

A sad day for all concerned :(

I feel another increase in the TV licence coming on though to help cover the deficit ;)

Stephen I agree re the licence fee, BBC has just lost £65 million at a stroke.

This is what James May has said today

He went on to describe his colleague's dismissal as 'a tragedy' and appeared to suggest that his time on the motoring show could also be over.

Speaking to Sky News outside his home, James told reporters: "I'm sorry that what ought to have been a small incident that could have been sorted out easily turned into something big.

"I don't really want to say anything more about it at the moment, I've only known for the past few minutes, and if you'll excuse me I very desperately have to write the eBay listing for my Ferrari."

When James was pressed as to whether 'Top Gear' could continue without Clarkson, he said: "I'm sure Top Gear will continue in some way, it existed before us... it's been reformatted several times."

Then, when he was asked if he would stay at 'Top Gear', he replied: "I don't want to talk about that too much but I think the three of us... as a package it works for very complicated reasons that a lot of people don't fully understand. That will require a lot of careful thought."

I'm still inclined to think that he manipulated the whole situation A. for publicity and B. to get out of his BBC contract

If I had to work with those politically correct muppets all day long, I'd probably punch them as well.

He'll do better away from there in my opinion.
It must be very oppressive walking on eggshells every day for fear of offending someone.

Good luck to the bloke.

Just read this post elsewhere which I think is an interesting comment

Something is very very wrong at the B.B.C, J.C has not been sacked his contract has not been Renewed so he will still be payed until the end of the contract.
He has not been found guilty of assault & if there was an assault how come no charges have been made, the Victim a fellow member of the B.B.C I am sure would be a member of a Union, if they thought that they had a case, they surely would have made a case for prosecution ,they have not.
Last year J.C sold the rights of T.G To the B.B.C ,why unless he was going anyway!! The only ones coming away from this case Quid's in are Clarkson/May & Hammond

The BBC have changed their wording from 'sacked' to 'dropped'.

Let's hope the BBC get the wording right on the main news tonight. I won't hold my breath though.

There was mention on the news tonight that the police are asking for details of the incident - so perhaps it is not over yet

Maybe we can now have a decent program about cars instead of all the silliness that Topgear became  . Haven't
watched it for years ... Should have been moved to the silly comedy genre

I agree Delboy although F1 is a little boring for me... There are more thrills in an Aurora shuffleboard competition

Sadly whle he clearly did wrong it's the Top Gear fans being punished, of whom I'm one. JC will not suffer at all. He and possibly something close enough to the format, but far enough to satisfy the lawyers, will pop up on another channel. If it's ITV or Channel 4 okay I can watch it. But I won't be bounced into a Sky subscription for one programme so I probably won't see it again. And I really am not interested in a serious car programme about Toyota Yaris's and Vauxhall Corsas.

Nothing wrong with Skoda's which are now made in Germany so you know there is going to be quality.

The stigma may still be there but I'd have one. Some nice looking cars about with power to match.

Me too ... I mentioned the ' Yeti ' because it reminded me of Merv and as a follower of the JC prog he would doubtless appreciate that they did a feature of some sort on this model recently. Hence the connection.

No stigma intended to owners, or would be owners, of this Marque.

I got it Moby, even if no-one else was paying attention. Though, as I'm sure you also got, my point was I'm not interested in a programme about everyday cars and how many days it takes them to reach 30 mph, and I regret the loss of Top Gear in its current format. Why couldn't the BBC have done what top football clubs do when a player transgresses? i.e. fine them 10 minutes wages (about £3m), suspend them for a couple of games, and then get on with the season?

There was never a doubt in my mind that it could go any other way

Your message young Yeti was, to me, equally clear ... footy players however work for ruthless Shareholders whereas the BeeB obviously has Senior Managers who need to suck up to a bunch of Civil Servants who are equally incapable of making a common sense decision in case it back fires on them.

So explain this latest twist to me.

A spokesperson for the BBC has said it is likely Jeremy Clarkson will work for the BBC in the future. They also said they are currently seeking a new presenter for Top Gear.

So, let me get this straight. If Jeremy Clarkson was fired as a punishment for the assault on the production chappie, why would the BBC ever employ him again?

But if they are willing to do so, for goodness sake why not put him back on Top Gear?

Either he's a bad boy or he's not. This feels like the proverbial cutting off of the nose to spite their face.

And the only losers are the Top Gear fans and the BBC licence fee payers who have lost a good earner.

Seems the producer has also gone now ... perhaps JC ( deffo a bun intended ) can work for the Beeb as long as he doesn't come into contact with said producer.
