Delivery times are a joke as well. There was a time when you would get your post delivered while you ate your breakfast, now your more likely to get it while your having your tea. Deliveries can range any time up to 6pm, and I was told that officially. OK, I accept not everyone can get their post first thing, but when it turns up at 5.30 on occasions, you do wonder what sort of service they're running. It certainly isn't customer related, and makes a mockery of first class post and anyone expecting important mail

You're right, Stephen. It's bad enough for "private" customers to get their post late in the afternoon, but for businesses to have to wait is ridiculous.

A couple of weeks ago we sent out the invitations to our daughter's wedding - all 50 of them! Posted at the Post Office counter in the small village shop. Apart from those that went abroad, all those that have replied - most of those sent an invitation - said that the invitations arrived the day after posting. Of those that went abroad, the one to Vietnam took 5 days, Norway took 3 days and California a week. We haven't heard from Oz so don't know.

Yes, we sent them first class, and they cost over £75  and the one to Australia cost £4 !!!!!!!   but I thought the service excellent.

Ah! the beauty of a privatised mail service

Back in the day, the postie started at about 5.00am, had first delivery done by 9.30 and second delivery by about 11.30.
Now, they start at 7.00 am, have to sort all of the night mail first (done away with night shifts) then prepare their deliveries.
They usually leave the office at around 11.30ish and finish when they are finished.
Most are done in a van now, as they double and trebled up the deliveries to cut costs.
So, in line with other private delivery companies, you get what you get.

In my opinion, this is the thin end of the wedge. Eventually they'll decide to only deliver certain days or to certain places.
Anyone who lives very rural better watch out.
They will find themselves having to either pay a surcharge or go and collect.

Our post usually arrives around 8am, our friends in the village get theirs long before 7am, and the postman walks to deliver.

Office postie called just after nine this morning. - it was 2pm a couple of weeks ago.

Then another Royal Mail worker turned up at 1030 with a parcel.

Our rural type postie arrives in a little red van anytime he thinks he will, tis usually the same feller. He has a beard, smokes a pipe and wears shorts ... have you met him ?

To be honest I couldn't care less what time of the day he calls.

There is absolutely nothing in our lives that is so important that we cannot wait a few extra hours, even days if needs be. We would doubtless survive even if we had to collect our junk mail post from a local sorting office.

There was a time when we used to get milk delivered to our doorstep - but we now have to go to the supermarket to get that.

We ' could ' have our milk delivered but actually prefer to pick it up ourselves at a Supermarket cos we don't have to tell the Milkmanperson when we are going away for a few days or on holiday etc, nor would we need to think about leaving money out else running up bills.

My milkman is "online" - I can cancel or change my order at the press of a button and pay online too - all very convenient. He even keeps an eye on the house when I am away
