Where debating politicians are involved, good questions are two a penny: - it's good answers that are like hens' teeth!

Since the most interesting part of any election is watching the results, why do the polls not close earlier so we can watch the results in prime time?

I used to love watching paint dry - but it's not the same these days.

Cos some of the working type people wouldn't be able to vote at their allocated Polling Station.towny44 wrote:.... why do the polls not close earlier so we can watch the results in prime time?

That's a double benefit then since most would probably vote for the wrong party anyway.Manoverboard wrote:Cos some of the working type people wouldn't be able to vote at their allocated Polling Station.towny44 wrote:.... why do the polls not close earlier so we can watch the results in prime time?

So the vote would be skewed by all those unemployed people, and night shift workers who would able to vote - and heaven only knows who they'd vote for!!

I think elections should be done like a TV talent show with a phone vote. Each week we vote one off and at the end the one left would be Prime Minister.
Then, again like TV talent shows, after three months we'd have completely forgotten who won.

I doubt the unemployed and great unwashed would be able to find their way to the polling stations, and we can bring forward voting to start at 5:00am to accomodate any night shift voters. Or like me they could apply for a postal vote. Not so ancient mariner wrote:towny44 wrote:That's a double benefit then since most would probably vote for the wrong party anyway.Manoverboard wrote:Cos some of the working type people wouldn't be able to vote at their allocated Polling Station.towny44 wrote:.... why do the polls not close earlier so we can watch the results in prime time?![]()

Nope, that would mean that the poor old souls who opt to work in the Polling Stations would be having to set off at 3:00am or thereabouts ... and just for a trickle of voterstowny44 wrote:... and we can bring forward voting to start at 5:00am to accomodate any night shift voters ...

Isn't it about time we had electronic voting - that way we could all vote at one minute past midnight and the result declared at two minutes past midnight - job done and we could then all get on with our lives, simples

I regard that 5 minutes between the BBC Regional News and the One Show as a pee break.

I'm all for electronic voting via the internet, but having a 1 minute political quickie every 5 years would somewhat spoil old David Dimbleby's enjoyment.david63 wrote:Isn't it about time we had electronic voting - that way we could all vote at one minute past midnight and the result declared at two minutes past midnight - job done and we could then all get on with our lives, simples

Electronic voting, how would it work ?
We could have 4,000,000,000 Chinese kids breaking the code and voting for EweClip

Well at least that's a better turnout than we usually get.Manoverboard wrote:We could have 4,000,000,000 Chinese kids breaking the code and voting for EweClip

Having a 'political quickie' has, over the years, landed several notable M.P.s in trouble!! It's the old MFI scenario!
