As an aside, did anyone happen to see the Greens party political broadcast at the end of the local news last night. I don't think the 'Voice' has anything to worry about.

The General Election
Anyone been round knocking on your door canvasing for your vote yet? No, me neither.

Re: The General Election
I enjoyed Questiontime last night
the first question was - that one about back stabbing
the conservative lady did her best - total audience silence
then the labour man - lots of applause
then the Telegraph correspondent expaining it was not a back stab it was a front stab, and a leadership contest because the two brothers had real differences over policy - more clapping!
the tory lady was now looking sick as a parrot
switched off - not much point in watching more. It just confirmed my thoughts that being nasty and personal does not go down well with the electorate.
Thinks, are these party strategists always stupid or just mostly so?

I am avoiding the BBC News and Current Affairs until well after the election. They are so totally biassed. I shall also be avoiding this thread Stephen, this is a topic guaranteed to outscore dress codes and smoking in the animosity stakes.

The thing is that the minority parties (UKIP, the Green, Lib Dems) could promise to enforce cruising dress codes, keel haul sun bed hoggers and flog smokers, alongside offering us all free chocolate for life, but they'll never have to deliver on it because they will not be running the country!Frank Manning wrote:I shall also be avoiding this thread Stephen, this is a topic guaranteed to outscore dress codes and smoking in the animosity stakes.

Wow! I was hoping you would include the SNP in that, but they are not contesting seats in England. Chicken!

They might still get more seats than the Lib Dems!

If the SNP get a controlling interest in a well hung parliament, will Kilts be compulsory on formal nights? in which case I am off to the buffet

If the SNP get a sniff of power at Westminster I want a referendum for England to leave the UK.

Yep Stephen...both me and my daughter watched the clip and to be honest both quite enjoyed it...not sure it will be a hit but it might appeal to the younger first time voters.
The one thing l am sure about is that politics would be far cleaner with the likes of Caroline Lucas sitting around the cabinet table.
Regards
Keith

You sound like you have rather taken a fancy to Ms Lucas, Keefy. But then you also rather liked the look of Red Rum and Desert Orchid so it's not much of a compliment.Onelife wrote:politics would be far cleaner with the likes of Caroline Lucas sitting around the cabinet table.

I am very disappoointed Stephen! I thought we would have at least 20 pages of people trading political insults by now!Stephen wrote:Frank Manning wrote:Wow! I was hoping you would include the SNP in that, but they are not contesting seats in England. Chicken!

I am not watching any news between now and May 10th. It is a media frenzy (Again!!) and has little or no relavence to running the country. I know our MP quite well, and he works hard and engages with people whether they agree with him or not. He will be getting our votes on that basis and that basis alone.

Re: The General Election
Antiquated rail links, hospitals in dire trouble, lack of investment in commerce and industry, a poor road system, boarded up shops is the legacy of our MP who is retiring after 14 years in the job. He has a knighthood for his work - in Africa!!! I'm afraid around here if you put a red rosette on a donkey they would vote for it.
Frank is correct. Get a good MP and the colour of his/her politics becomes an irrelevance.
Personally I am put off politics by hypocrisy and about-turns once they get in office.

Re: The General Election
I'm currently interviewing all our local candidates (Com, Lab, Lib Dem, UKIP and Green) for our community radio station, Moorlands Radio, and so far the thing that's struck me is that political differences apart they are all pretty decent, committed and passionate people. It's also fascinated me that on key issues they actually have far more in common than differences.

Same here, except substitute blue rosette for red, though pleased it's that way roundoldbluefox wrote:around here if you put a red rosette on a donkey they would vote for it.
Does anyone live in a marginal, where their vote might actually make a difference?
