Re: Football 2014/15
This was the proverbial game of two halves
Bournemouth lost their usual flair and fluency . . . Brom were two goals up at half time
But . . . the Cherries took command in the second period and scored four goals and back on top of the pile

Re: Football 2014/15
Looks like Blackpool (ex Prem) and Wigan (ex Prem) down with us next season, along with hopefully Millwall.
The top is very exciting. Two of the three promoted sides, Brentford & Wolves have aquitted themselves well.
Rotherham not so good but what the hell, no one likes Rotherham anyway.
Once again, Gills failed to see a game out.
3-1 with ten mins to go and draw 3-3

It's really exciting at the top of the Championship. That's where the action is and any one of a number of teams could get promoted. Surprised how Wigan have literally plummeted, Cardiff not doing much although Norwich have picked up after a slow start.
What's going on at Leeds?

Do them Moby !!!
League one is very northern biased.
Our most local games are Crawley & Orient and both may go down.
Both of their biggest gates of the season have been against the might Gills.

At last foxy you score in the last minute instead of the opposition.

Re: Football 2014/15
Surely, Town must be safe now. We would have to lose the last 4 (and Millwall to win their last 5) to be level on points and be in danger of relegation. Hopefully the lack of pressure will help Powell to blood some more youngsters in the last few games.
Great result for the Foxes - welldone!

Great results today and the icing on the cake was the Gunners winning at Turf Moor.

Is the great escape on Foxy ????
Do you want it or would be happier going with at least the expectation of winning a game as opposed to another seasons struggle.
Cheers Moby
Bring it on next season.
My favourite away game

Re: Football 2014/15
It's all very exciting with this late surge and the manner of yesterday's win was fantastic. However if it was a toss up between being also rans in the Prem, or the excitement, without all the razzmatazz of the Prem, in the Championship, I'd prefer the Championship where almost any team has a chance of success.
I would miss not being able to get a stream on the pooter to watch them but at least I'd be able to get a ticket to go and watch them from time to time.
Just looking at the table there are eight teams with a realistic chance of promotion from the Championship. In the Prem it's much more about big money, with the exception of Southampton, and the outcome is much more predictable.
In the end it comes down to big fish, little pond or little fish, big pond.
What does everybody else think?

As long as Stoke finish above West Ham, my brother will be buying me a pint. If they don't he may not see me for a while!

Re: Football 2014/15
Watching the Football League Show on Sat (or Sunday tbh), and I had to laugh when Leroy Rosenior described Darren Bent's signing for Derby as a "canny acquisition".
Really? What is so canny about loan- signing a recent England international who has scored goals for fun almost everywhere he has been? It's simply down to money - of which Derby are throwing plenty around in an ever increasingly desperate attempt for promotion. Of course I'm only jealous - I would love for Hudds to be able to afford to sign a player of such calibre (even in the short term), but the best we could get is Ishmael |Miller

Re: Football 2014/15
Know the feeling Romig
We've been shopping in Poundland for many years, then you here of teams in our league like Bristol City who have overspent by £9 million.
And our southcoast friends in Bournemouth have debts of £15 million +
Football fairplay rules ????
Apparently don't apply if the money is given as a loan from a benevolent owner?
Go figure that one out.
I can't wait to see what will happen if QPR get relegated because they owe the Football League £50 million in unpaid fines for breaching the rules last season. In a bid to get back up, they overspent by about £60 million alledgedly.
They will have to negotiate something or join the Conference

...and breathe. Town secured the point we needed to ensure Championship football next season - with 4 games to play. No more last game squeaky-bum time.
Wonder if Powell will be able to field some youngsters now, to give them some more experience?

What happened with Steve Thompson, Romig? I thought he had joined Huddersfield so was surprised when I heard that Leeds had suspended him. Did he get a better offer?

Re: Football 2014/15
Foxy,
He got another offer from his old mate Redfearn, and I believe he left with our blessing. Powell has brought some of his own men in, so I don't think it was a huge loss in their minds.
Regarding his suspension at L**ds, I understand it has been done by the board/boss to punish Redfearn for his disagreement/displeasure with their instruction not to play a player who could have thereby have secured a longer contract (by way of predetermined number of goals). Redfearn wouldn't lie to the press for the reason of the players dropping apparently, so the board took the odd action to suspend Thompson.
I would add that this is all speculation/rumour in the press - but you really couldn't make it up!
What a complete pantomime - I for one am loving it!

Don't you love it
Mind you, if you get time, check out the soap opera that has been Leyton Orient this season.
It makes the Leeds owner look quite normal.
This Italian has spents millions to get them relegated.

You couldn't make it up. Was this Leeds we were talking about since it reads like a clip from a Mafia Who's Who? Gone are the good old days when football clubs ran for football's sake. Nowadays they are merely vehicles for wealthy foreigners (and my team is no different) as status symbols, some little toy to buy because we have bought everything else. Oh, and if Joe Public wants to come along he will be very welcome and we can rake a bit of money off him whilst we are at it!!!!
Cynical or what? But isn't it great when it all unravels?
