Good Old Amazon

Unread post by Stephen »

I never knew you could get spares.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this. The times I've gone to use a tube of mastic and the nozzle is either blocked solid which means digging out the old stuff or it splits round the base thread rendering it useless.

Amazon to the rescue. Cheap as chips and free delivery. Bargain

Good shout Stephen.......l've run into the same problems several times, especially with that Unibond no nails stuff. It sets rock hard in the nozzle.

Next time my wife is stocking up with her girlie things l'll get her to order me some.

Hubby uses 3"- 4" No 10 screw to keep the nozzle free, but he does cut the end of the nozzle off to make the hole bigger for his job. If not a smaller screw will work. A screw is used so that if the contents dry a little, the screw can be unscrewed.

Hands up, I use online shopping with one exception

My husband uses the screw method too - seems to work really well 'cos I managed to use the mastic this week.

I'm another fan of the screw method. However I wonder if it would work better if, before putting the sealant away you unscrew the nozzle and push a nice big screw inside and reassemble so that when you come to use it again you just pull the screw out together with the sealant which has hardened around it.
I was taught to be cautious

You could have posted this a few days ago, Stephen, before I had a garage clear out and took numerous tubes of bunged up caulk, exterior and interior sealants/fillers of many types and colours, to the tip!!! Needless to say, it was not me who didn't replace the caps on them. ;) As the DIY' er around here I leave clearing up to my apprentice who has obviously failed in that respect...... as being the person designated for replacing filler tube caps.

I will order some of these on HIS card! Revenge is sweet

I have tried sealing with a tight fitting nail, wrapping various types of tape tightly round the nozzle, never works.
I'll give the screw method a go, but for the amount of times I use mastic is it really worth the bother when I can just replace the old nozzle with a fresh new one that for once comes with a nozzle cap.

And of course your local DIY store will never sell spare nozzles, why would they when they can flog you another tube of mastic, which aren't cheap.

So they do, well I never.

Only three pack showing online and with no nozzle caps. Andy my nearest B&Q is probably at least ten miles away.

I know Alan. You just can't help some people.

You try and bring a little joy into the life of the bodger, sorry DIY'er, and what do you get for your trouble, I'll tell what you get, nothing but grief, that's what you get :moresarcasm: :)
