Hi towny,

Just because l can't think of any significant contribution the conservatives have made to our country doesn't mean there haven't been any. I don't know where you get this...'the only way is labour' rubbish from. Al l have stated is that l believe the repercussions of what was a world recession would have been the same no matter which party were in power. What l do know is that after five years of this goverment we now have more people eating out of cardboard boxs than there were before. I personally haven't seen any bennifits from what is supposed to be the economic upturn and l'm dam sure those on minimum wages won't have seen any either.

Is the country moving in the right direction...probably yes, (which should be the case after a recession) but it will always be the case that the rich will get richer while the rest of us are left playing catch up under a conservative goverment.

Hopefully you will be proved right John and if you are l will get Mob to delete everything l have said about the conservative party....squeak aqueak

Regards

Keith

Plenty of other countries without our overspending Labour Govt. weathered the recession far better than us because their finances were in much better shape.
What l do know is that after five years of this goverment we now have more people eating out of cardboard boxs than there were before. Yes they are too idle to cook and so order takeaways. :sarcasm:
I personally haven't seen any bennifits from what is supposed to be the economic upturn and l'm dam sure those on minimum wages won't have seen any either. Sorry you're not seeing any benefit, but for sure the increase in tax allowances will have benefited those on minimum wage far more than most.

Finally I quote from an old work colleague about what his Dad said (both of them Labour supporters) "Under a Labour Govt. the distribution of wealth is always fairer, but under a Conservative Govt. everyone is better off, and that's as true today as in the 70's when it was said.

One thing is certain. In five years time, after the Conservatives have been in power alone for five years, no-one else will be able to take any credit for what they do achieve, and no-one else will take the blame for what they don't.

In the last five years it is less clear. There have been some things the Lib Dems claim credit for, but who knows whether they would have happened without them. And there have been some things I hoped the Tories would do but didn't. Did the Lib Dems stop them or not?

At least this time both credit and blame will become clear.

I see on the news today Cameron has said we are to get the first fully operational 7 day a week NHS. Well before he implements what will no doubt be another u-turn policy perhaps he should get to grips with sorting out the 5 day NHS

hey ho Keefy lardy a*se

I thought you were going to launch into a Monty python type "what did the Tories ever do for us ? " type sketch and end up eating your own words ;-)
best thing the tories did was break the unions and stop them holding the country to ransom, also I understand selling off council houses to the tenants was a popular wheeze at the time, I am sure there are a few others as well but I have neither the time or inclination to list them
Keep digging me old mucker, you will hit Australia soon :-)

Being one of the less well educated on this fourm you'll no doubt allow me an opinion without having to reach for my tin hat.

The reason for our economic crisis wasn't the fault of the labour party it was the result of the global financial crisis of that l am in no doubt. It is true to say that things could have been handled better but to lay the blame at the door of the labour party is in my opinon wrong. The reason as to why the crash hit us so hard is that we became to relient on our financal sectors to fuel our ecomony. I hear all this talk about how labour ruined our ecomony but in reality both labour and the conservitives must shoulder this responsibility equally.

OL....a once, up until a few years ago lifetime Conservative voter.
Keefy, Andy Burnham, the front runner for the Labour leadership, now admits that had Labour run a budget surplus prior to the crash, the recession in the UK would not have been as severe or as long.
Is he or you wrong or is he just saying that to appeal to the voters?

Hi towny,

There is undoubtedly some truth in what Andy Pandy has said about his parties handling prior to the global recession, something which l had alluded to when saying mistakes were made. However l still maintain the severity and period of recession would near as dam it have been the same whichever party were in power. I don't think conservative spending would have been much different to that of the labour party, as for them putting money aside for the rainy days (budget surplus) l doubt very much that this would have been at the forefront of their fiscal planning during what were the 'boom years' of the labour party.... had they been in power.

Keith
