Spelling/Grammer
I would be the first to acknowledge my spelling/grammar is atrocious but I was wondering if other members struggle with the spelling of certain words or there grammatical correctness
Just a few that I struggle with...
Probably

Re: Spelling/Grammer
I am perhaps lucky that my junior school teachers and English teacher at secondary pushed me hard so my spelling and grammar is pretty good, though my fingers often let me down when typing it!
I'm not over bothered if others can't spell perfectly, but I do get wound up, perhaps irrationally, by some of the things I hear. My biggest gripe is "could of", "would of" and "should of", in place of "could have" etc., both in speech and written down. I think what irritates me particularly about those is you don't need a grammar teacher to tell you they're wrong. A brief moment of thought would tell one they didn't make any sense!

I usually know by instinct, else Grammar School drilling, if it's right or wrong although the faster I type the worse my spelling gets but then the spellchecker underlines any errors I have made in red !

Re: Spelling/Grammer
I don't personally have much trouble with spelling, but my fingers do. Nearly every time I type "Dear", it comes out "Dera". Bristol often comes out as Brisotl. Would, could, should frequently have the l and d transposed.

Re: Spelling/Grammer
It really doesn't bother me how someone spells a word or how good/bad their grammar is as long as I know what they mean, what does irritate me is the 'odd person' who will pick someone up over it when they are less than perfect themselves, thankfully it doesn't happen on here except in jest

generally I ignore the mistakes - even though they make me snort!Dancing Queen wrote:It really doesn't bother me how someone spells a word or how good/bad their grammar is as long as I know what they mean, what does irritate me is the 'odd person' who will pick someone up over it when they are less than perfect themselves, thankfully it doesn't happen on here except in jest![]()
I reckon it's rude to point out mistakes on a public forum like this - for all I know the poster might be dyslexic ...
BUT I have friends on another forum who are stalked by a pedant who likes to make fun of their typos ( and of course the stalker 'is perfect and NEVER makes a mistake' .....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I proof read everything they post and let them know of any problems so, hopefully, they can be corrected before the stalker gets to them

Hi Mob,
I don't have much problem when using this computer as it has a good spellchecker, but when I'm using the tablet it's not only a fiddly but the spellchecker format is different..it gives you three options which I can hardly see therefore often pick the wrong one.
You did say you were going to correct my spelling mistakes but I suppose its the case with all of your kind gestures thy come at a price.

I do find that I need to check an on line dictionary (my pc does not spell chech other than on word) more frequently nowadays, I put it down to age rather than incompetence.

Thanks for the tip David, now all I have to remember is the grammar, which might tax me a bit more.david63 wrote:Most browsers these days will have a spell check add-in.towny44 wrote:I do find that I need to check an on line dictionary (my pc does not spell check other than on word) more frequently nowadays, I put it down to age rather than incompetence.

It's not spell checkers -or the lack thereof - that give me amusement/grief (depending whether I am the recipient or the sender), but predictive text that sneaks in totally different words to the ones intended.
