EHIC Cards
I've just renewed my EHIC card online so I thought I would put a note on here to remind others to check and make sure theirs are still in date.

Nice one ...
Now tell everybody to always carry it with them when going ashore as " It's locked away in the safe in my cabin " simply doesn't wash with the Euro style Jobsworths

And don't forget to use the official government site to do it. It's free. If you use a site that tries to charge you a fee, of which there are several, start again. They're just charging you to do something you can do yourself easily.

I just checked my wallet and the card is ok until 2017, good idea to check though, especially as we're off to Europe next week!

We always have ours but never take them ashore with us. Never thought about it before but from now on I think we should.
I was taught to be cautious

Re: EHIC Cards
It's an absolute must as I personally discovered when I had to go by Ambulance to a Hospital in Poland late last year, the charges were waived once I produced the EHIC card. I think that they were grateful as in this case we were a mere 20 miles from the Ukrainian border so I suspect that they really couldn't be arsed to fill in all the forms if there was any way at all of avoiding doing so.oldbluefox wrote:Good thinking.Manoverboard wrote:Nice one ...

I know it is sensible to take your card with you but is it the card or just your number that is required? I only ask because an acquaintance said they just kept their number on their phone ( & uploaded to the cloud!). Anyone know? We always take our cards.

One thing to note is that they don't send you a reminder when your card expires. Put your expiry date on your phone or calendar. It's free to renew

You need the card imo.Ranchi wrote:I know it is sensible to take your card with you but is it the card or just your number that is required? I only ask because an acquaintance said they just kept their number on their phone ( & uploaded to the cloud!). Anyone know? We always take our cards.
A number means absolutely nothing if they have no way of checking it against the official NHS records else the database where the card details securely reside.

Might as well take the card. No reason not to.

Thanks for raising the subject, Jo, it prompted me to check ours to find that they expire next week!

Re: EHIC Cards
Thank you as well, as it reminded us to get our EHIC cards. Have to say it is a very simple process.
