Dress-Code Sequence

Thanks to The Invigilator's tip about the listing of dress-codes on individual cruises I just checked out the details for A310N

I'm most disappointed to see the mix of formal nights is totally rubbish!

As we have alternate sea-days and ports on our first week (followed by a port intensive second week) the dress code order is as follows:-

1) Soton - Eve Casual
2) At Sea - Black Tie
3) La Coruna - Smart Jacket
4) At Sea - Black Tie
5) Gibraltar (am) - Eve Casual
6) At Sea - Black Tie
7) Ajaccio - Eve Casual
8) Cittaveccia - Eve Casual
9) Monte Carlo - Smart Jacket
10) Barcelona - Eve Casual
11) Valencia - Smart Jacket
12) At Sea -Smart Jacket
13) At Sea - Black Tie
14) At Sea - Eve Casual

So, 3 Black Tie, formal nights in 5 days! Then a full week before the last one.

I personally think the squashing of formal nights dilutes the "special" nature of them -we had a similar thing on our cruise last year. I'd much rather have a more equal spacing even if that meant having one one a port day (subject to it not being a late departure port). I'd even prefer the dropping of one, leaving 3 on the 2 week cruise. Looking at the details of our particular cruise I feel sure that the order could have been better planned, and hope that this is indeed the case when onboard. If not, we may possibly dine elsewhere on one formal night, though I notice that both Sindhu and Seventeen are venues where the daily dress-code will apply.

Rob, it would be useful if you matched the itinerary along side that.
Often formal nights coincide with sea days or days were the ship leaves port a bit earlier (to give people time to change)

From my point of view (not being overly fond of the formal nights), I would be happy at getting most of them out of the way allowing me to relax more.
Evening casual and smart jacket are the same to me except on 'smart jacket' I carry a jacket.

I suspect that the list showing on P&O website has been compiled bu the "Operations Department" and will possibly bear little resemblance to that actually arranged by the CD on the ship

Thanks Romig, in this instance it really highlights a correlation between sea days and black tie.

I am guessing that maybe this approach was taken due to feedback from passengers who over the years maybe complained about having to rush back on board to get ready for a formal night.

I'm sure you're right Ken, and as a later diner, I'm probably being a tad selfish.

Despite my reservations, even if the order does end up to be as shown (though I realise that as per David's post there's a fair chance it won't be) we will probably don the glad-rags on the formal nights, as I would rather do that and join in with the majority of the ship's passengers than to wear evening casual and feel a bit "out of place".

Whilst I was thinking the black tie days would be sea days I seem unable to work out how to pull up the details you have, please can you send the appropriate link.
I also see someone found out departure times from ports, again, I am incapable of finding the link, anyone any ideas please.
We are trying to plan our speciality evenings and this info would be most helpful.

Tell you what, though, to save you this inconvenience, I'd be prepared to take the cruise off your hands for 50% of what you paid for it. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't enjoy it, especially the first week but I'm prepared to make the sacrifice if it will help.

I've experienced a couple of cruises where the list published prior to embarkation has differed once the ship has sailed (so to speak) - why can't they get it right before departure?

I fully realise that some allowance en route has to be made for unforeseen things like a change of port etc., but a more accurate prediction of dress codes would be nice.

Em, simply because things may change. For example say they planned a particular piece of entertainment for a formal night butt he flight times got changed and so they would not be able to join in time then they may move that entertainment to the following night etc. I think people have to take these things only as 'draft' or for guidance and NOT set in stone.

Sorry Barrygsquires, the Ventura cruises don't seem to be showing the same details as the ones for Azura, perhaps P&O are still updating them & it might be worth trying later

Have realised that our B&W night is almost at the end of the cruise and am still trying to loose the weight to get into my dress now. Can't possibly diet on the cruise so I guess I have only 1 option....... Buy a bigger dress problem solved for now and for the cruise

I'm pleased to see that on my birthday the dress code (at the moment) is Jacket required, I was hoping it wouldn't be a formal night as we're planning to dine in either XVII or Sindhu

I have 6 - 6 - 12 on my cruise..... could you imagine if a lady was to go to the hairdressers on the ship for the formal nights if they were all bunched up together.... I personally wouldnt be going every other day but I bet there are some who would....

As long as we know how many of each type of dress code, I really can't see the problem.

We all managed with this type of information before and didn't find out which nights were which dress code until we were on board; even then they sometimes changed and the number of each.
