First Concert
The radio alarm woke me thi morning with a nine year old girl saying she was going to her first concert tonight. She is going to see Fleetwood Mac.
What & where was your first concert?
Mine was Ten Years After At City Hall, Newcastle.

Re: First Concert
My first, back in the very late sixties, was a band probably few, if any of you, will have heard of - but I loved them - the Edgar Broughton Band. My second, was Genesis.

The Rolling Stones in Sophia Gardens in 1963 - front row seats and my friend and I went backstage afterwards and met them (one of our school friends worked as a "bouncer" at concerts on weekends and got us in to see them). My favourite was Charlie Watts the drummer - I had their autographs too including of course Brian Jones - sold them a few years ago at Bonhams - paid for a cruise

My friend and I used to hitch up to Cardiff to Sophia Gardens to see Edgar Broughton Band. And hitch back to Bishopston(Gower) at 2am! Makes me shudder to think of it now.

Hi ranchi
Funny thing is....l used to love going to nightclubs but can't ever remember going to any concerts during those years. Been to several since, most of which have been classical concerts.
Regards
Keith

Michael Nesmith at Drury Lane in November1975. His wife invited me into the theatre during the afternoon to watch the rehearsal, too.
Graham Bonnet and Rainbow a few years ago in Birmingham.
The Tremeloes and The Equals appeared one night at the Battle of Britain Ball in the RAF West Drayton NAAFI in '75 - they were rubbish.

T-Rex when I was 14 in 1971 at Newcastle City Hall.
I ended up on stage with Marc Bolan..I was wearing a see -through blue bubble blouse and a very short short blue kilt.
Went with my friend and we did look older than 14.
The band wanted my friend and I to join them backstage..we declined..cos needed to get the bus home.
We took our daughter aged 8 in 1993, to see Cliff Richard at the NEC ..her choice...she loved him then...lol
I drew the short straw and had to go in with her. My OH sat in the car.

Eurythmics in Perth, Australia - about 26 years ago. Annie Lennox sang one song and then walked off stage with a sore throat! Got my money refunded though.
More recently, went to see Texas at the Hay-on-Wye Festival - brilliant!

I think mine was Pink Floyd before they were famous, or it might have been Steeleye Span

My first concert/show was to see Dion and Del Shannon at Portsmouth Guildhall. I was about 14 or 15. Not long after that I went to Portsmouth again to see Brian Hyland and Bobby Vee. Little Eva was on with one of those acts but I can't remember which one. Does any one remember any of those American singers - it must have been about 50 years ago.
A couple of years after that I saw the Rolling Stones at Ryde IW.

At least we could hear and understand all the words they sang in those days. In fact, I can still remember and sing a lot of them.

The best concert I went to - festival not concert really - was the IOW in 1970 when Jimi Hendrix headlined. It was truly amazing - as was he - sadly a couple of weeks later he was dead.

My first one was 'Soft Machine' at Stirling University. We were underwhelmed so much that we didn't return after the interval. The next one was Steeleye Span - which was much better - saw them again some years later. My most recent one....Andre Rieu

Do you know what, being old-ish doesn't bother me at all ... just spend a while thinking about the alternativeKenmo1 wrote:...

Have to confess that I play up a little regarding being a pensioner, for example by scolding the Supermarket checkout girl lightly for not calling a supervisor to check that I am old enough to purchase boxes of wine

Mine ? My gran took me to see Gerry & The Pacemakers in Blackpool as a treat whilst on holiday (I wasn't very old and don't think I enjoyed it that much !)

Same here Onelife, me and my mates used to go down to London to go round the clubs and gigs, one place we used to visit quite a lot was the Hammersmith Palais where the Miguel Five used to support on a regular basis. The Ranch at Shepperds Bush was another haunt where we saw quite a few celebs of the day, had a dance with Sandie Shaw in there ooooh! I fancied her.Onelife wrote:Hi ranchi

Best gig was at the Nottingham Sherwood Rooms where Gino Washington and The Ram Jam Band starred in a 24 hour charity concert, I couldn't last for 24 minutes these days.
