The trouble with valentines day and buying flowers etc is that the price of them is hiked up so much.....

Ours won't be romantic but will be lovely as Valentines Day is also my lovely mum's birthday so we will be seeing her.

What a coincidence, Valentines Day was my mum's birthday too so it was expensive if we wanted to buy her flowers ... my daughter's birthday is the day before, 13th FebThe Invigilator wrote:Ours won't be romantic but will be lovely as Valentines Day is also my lovely mum's birthday so we will be seeing her.

Need cheering up, found out day before last the purchase on a house has fallen through, so we are back to square one.
Mind you when Popeye the sailorman sees the size of the bill, I dont think he will be cheery
I trust we will be getting a full, detailed report, cornmillgirl, including prices and gratuities. We've not had anything like that for ages.

Hyacinths in a pot then. The blue ones seem to have the strongest scent, and when they're finished you can plant them in the garden. The Invigilator wrote:Wina G wrote:What a coincidence, Valentines Day was my mum's birthday too so it was expensive if we wanted to buy her flowers ... my daughter's birthday is the day before, 13th FebThe Invigilator wrote:Ours won't be romantic but will be lovely as Valentines Day is also my lovely mum's birthday so we will be seeing her.
mmm can't believe how much flowers are hiked for the 14th. Feb and for Mother's Day too, but luckily Mumsy dosn't like to have cut flowers in the house - bizarre I know and have never really got to the bottom of it, but she does like to have artificial flowers. For me I love them especially daffodils and my boys always give me a huge bunch on my birthday which is the same day as Mother's Day this year. Obviously I can't be expected to celebrate 2 days in one so will expect a huge amount of spoilage for the entire weekend

Nothing as you get worse service on Valentines day so we usually celebrate the next day but now we celebrate our wedding anniversary on the 15th now 2 years next week. You may remember we got married on Aurora in the South Pacific.

Wine, chocolate, and a movie. And since I'm single
I don't have to share the chocolate or the wine, and I can watch the girliest movie I want!:)

You do sound a bundle of fun old chapDark Knight wrote:nothing
as it is an event made up by card companies to sell more cards and has no meaning
why wait for one day a year to do something nice for your other half, it should not need a card company to tell you to appreciate you other half, they should know you love them and empty gestures one day a year really don't mean owt

just coz I am not taken in by a marketing ploy from Hallmark cards does not make me miserable
perhaps it means I have more sense than some people who think a fake outpouring of sentiment one day a year makes up for the lack of affection and love for their wives, for the rest of the year
my wife does not need some made up dross to know she is loved and respected, perhaps other wives fall for the hype but luckily my wife has a brain and is not a dupe for card companies and knows what fake means

Why not buy your good lady a mask (for you to wear) as I am sure that would make her less miserable.

Re: Valentines day
Me and Popeye sacked giving each other a card donkey years ago, after we got married. We show our affection and
have many romantic meals out all year round. Each to their own though, some people, like my best friend and husband
exchange very slushy valentines cards every year because she loves it.
