Are these people suggesting we rush out and spend loads of money we don't have and rack up even more debt, putting the economic recovery in jeopardy?

I think we are struggling from previous years when benefits were scattered like confetti to the extent you were better off on benefit than working, and if you could pick up a bit of black market labour you were quite comfortably off.
I am always amazed when these 'vulnerable ' people are interviewed on TV to see the wide screen TV, the latest games consoles, cigarettes, drinks cans, tattoos etc. (even boob jobs!!!). I would have thought if you are living hand to mouth, as we are led to believe, you cannot afford any of these. I know that because I have been there.
I suppose today will be a good day out for the far left, Socialist Workers and those who choose benefits as their chosen lifestyle but it will do nothing to resolve the real inequalities in our society.

I was disgusted, back in the 80s, to find that the RAF hospital was performing cosmetic surgery on servicewomen. Surely that's not what the defence budget is for?

One comment made was that they are expecting a ""savage" budget. Hmm. The government laid out a budget shortly before the election. Have they so little confidence in it that they've now got to do another one?

I completely agree with you and all that's been said on here. Sometimes it pays not to read the newspapers, as it's not good for the blood pressure. I know though it's difficult to avoid.

Thank gawd we still have people who are prepared to get out onto the streets and protest about the things they strongly believe in.

I don't think for a minute that the vast majority of protesters would argue that austerity isn't required but are out there because of the inequality in which austerity has been implemented.

What I would say though is that the trouble makers who cover their faces with scarves and such should be shot on sight

I see Charlotte Church and Russell Brand were lending their support before jetting off back to their expensive pads out in the country. Very noble of them (not). I wonder if either of them employs an accountant to massage their tax affairs. Surely they cannot be so hypocritical. Or am I being cynical again?

I saw a Greek anti-austerity protester interviewed on the telly this morning. All she seemed to want to talk about was "the others". Just about sums the whole thing up - blame everyone but yourselves.

Just a very brief input (I'll be too busy running and ducking the arrows!) - firstly people should all learn to live within their means. I can't be doing with benefits scroungers. I had to listen recently to someone moaning and complaining that their kids would be mentally scarred if they couldn't have vastly expensive designer trainers! Twaddle! Likewise, the kids would be mentally and emotionally scarred if they could have computer games!

However, what has annoyed me recently is that a Greek woman was interviewed on tv and complained that it was unfair that the huge debt which the country has run up has got to be repaid to the countries who loaned the money! What!!!!!
