Thanks Jay, we haven't got to make a decision for a couple of months, so we'll mull it over a while. S*d's law though isn't it?

Re: What else do you do ?
Moby- why did you suggest that?
Gill, you're in almost the same position as we were. For a while I convinced myself that our daughter wanted us to go and the likelihood was that the baby will be late but in the end we felt we had to change the holiday. I did feel much better once we postponed it. it happened with my elder daughter's second baby too. We had a cruise booked for 5th June that year and at the previous Christmas I was told about the expected arrival - June 5th - in the event it was June 2nd. We had moved the cruise from June to September.

After informing Tony I think we should transfer, he's come up with a suggestion, that I think may work. We go on the cruise - we've got nearly $3,500 OBC so it could be a really good one - and if Caroline delivers very early, we abandon the holiday and fly home.
I think that could be the way to go.

Would seem to be a good compromise Gill. I think I'd be checking availability of flights from each stop on your itinerary. Two weeks early is quite a lot for a first baby so you'll probably be home before the baby arrives. Hope all goes well. We are now thinking of going somewhere, possibly at the end of October in place of our postponed Italy trip - not sure where, maybe a last minute deal, not necessarily a cruise - we'll see. Hopefully by then new Grandaughter, yes it's a girl apparently, will be at least a month old and elder daughter will be around to lend a hand.

I didn't intend to ' suggest ' itCaroleF wrote:Moby- why did you suggest that? Carole
The point I tried to make is that babies will arrive to suit themselves regardless of our holiday plans.
We obviously wouldn't book if we were aware of a due date but we wouldn't change a booking, baring an emergency, that had already been made.
We, well, Mobietta actually believes that she will be of far greater use to all concerned a couple of weeks after the main event rather than getting in the way during and shortly after the birth when both parents and / or siblings are collectively vying for a cuddle and a " Coo-ey ".

Moby - it was said with tongue in cheek - I'm not good at putting in the laughing faces! Everyone has to do what they think is best for them. We have a cruise booked for next March but I think we're safe there!

Re: What else do you do ?
I really don't like flying, so cruising is our only foreign holiday, but we also have some short breaks in this country. We love going to London for the weekend to take in a show and also shop ! In January we saw Queen with Adam Lambert at the O2, which was great and we are booked to go and see the new musical 'bend it like beckham'' We go with the family to centre parcs, which is lovely but exhausting ! and spend long weekends about twice a year at a spa hotel called Thoresby Hall, in Nottingham. Apart from that our children are spread out throughout the country so we go to see them often, all in all we are very busy and will be glad when we retire and have a bit more spare time.

I don't know where you get this idea from that when you retire you will have more spare time !
Seems to me you get even less than when you were working !
