39 and counting
I see this pathetic government have made another monumental cock up over the cost of upgrading Network Rail.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33270586
Not sure if it is 39 or 40 u-turns this conservative shambles of a government have made, but you can be pretty sure there'll be more to come.
This has and always will be a party that spends billions on ill thought out policies then blames everyone but themselves for miscalculating what there projects will acctually cost.
If they can't get their figures right on this one then how can we expect them to cost out HS2
Perhaps they should reconsider HS2 until such time that we have new laws that cover government's gross mismanagement of tax payers money.

Come on now OL, be fair ... it's the Civil Service who ' serve ' the Government who actually make such cock-ups and they of course all think like, and indeed vote for, Labour.
OK, got it now ?

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Hey Moby
It matters not who dream up these ideas it's the plonkers who sit round the cabinet table that rubber stamp then...and as they are the ones in power they are the ones who should carry the can when things keep going pear shaped.
Ok...you got it now?

Personally, as a non rail user, I think its a great idea to stop wasting money on saving 15 minutes on 2-3 hr rail journeys. If the Govt. really want to invest in a Northern power house they could save billions by investing in a new M62 mark 2 from Sheffield to the M60. This really would give a boost to the northern economy and give massive journey time savings on the current M62.
And if they also drop the silly HS2 programme they can divert that money into paying off Labour's debt and reduce the welfare benefit reductions and keep Keefy happy as well.

Hi Towny...funny you should mention the M62 as we will be travelling up to Preston on Sunday and in doing so I think we pass over it.
I can't say I have had much call to use the M62 but having just read a bit about it it would appear the need for a relief road of some description is desperately needed.
I've been toing and throing about the need for HS2 and I'm still sitting on the fence on that one. If however I could be sure that the conservatives pledge that HS2 will benefit both North and everything in-between going South then I think it can only be a good thing, however, taking a troy politicians word on anything will leave most of us poorer in real terms.
However, as a gesture of good will (cus I'm getting to like you
) if you knock me up a banner with the words...'Conservative Broken Promises' I'll be happy to come up and do a bit of campaigning for your new motorway
See Mr Shiney I can be a happy chappie
Regards
Keith
