BBQ Season

Unread post by Stephen »

OK, it's a lovely day, well here it is with a mixture of sun and welcoming cloud.

So who else is having a bbq this afternoon / evening and what are you going to be cooking.

I think we will be having an evening bbq when it's a bit cooler. As it's only the two of us, a small rack of ribs and some burgers will be going on the gas Weber later.

What about the rest of you :?:

we're not since OH is umpiring a tennis tournament and it'll be too late to set it up by the time he gets in - but someone nearby is - I can smell it and it's making my tummy rumble!

A Weber BarBQ using Weber's restaurant grade charcoal and a nice cut of marinated fillet steak.

Are we having a BarBQ .... nope, we're going out to friends for dinner

Brilliant Gill. I've always fancied doing one of those. Is someone in the dog house or are we talking murder mystery weekend

Two things that are a BBQ mans best friend are a thermometer and a timer. You can then cook as you should, confidently, with the lid DOWN

Yes a murder mystery and for once, my husband wasn't the culprit as he always seems to be! It was a great evening, even if I do say so myself.

We had our first bbq of the summer yesterday and the sun shone for us. We had butterflied leg of lamb which I'd marinated in olive oil and lemon and garlic. John cooked it on a Weber bbc - he tells me you need the lid for the lamb joint. We also had some lovely sausages and corn on the cob. Then we had strawberries - which John had picked! I also made Nigella's Black Cherry Cheesecake - it's amazing and so easy to make. Today it's raining! Cold lamb salad for lunch. I hear we're in for a heatwave - not good in the heat although maybe we might be able to have a few more bbqs.

Sound lovely Carol. I've only done butterflied lamb once. It's a fine line between over cooking it (which I done) and getting it just right. Probably too many vinos at the time ;)

I'll be doing the same dish in a few weeks time, keeping a close eye on it this time.

We dont do BBQ at home, these days well it hardly seems worth it for the two of us. However reading about the Weber and the special charcoal makes it seem more attractive. We went to our Rotary Club BBQ last Friday evening, at a local golf club. It was quite good, except the seats were murder ( Not that sort GillD). One Rotary club member is brilliant with a BBQ and as suggested he always uses a thermometer, and does a mean hot dog as well.

Frank, Barbees have changed beyond belief, cooking for two is simplicity itself and well worth the effort.

Our own Weber, for example, is the Gourmet version ( comes with an in-built thermometer ) which can do direct or indirect cooking, best of all it has a removable circle within the cooking grill to accommodate everything from a Wok to a Pizza pan, we don't have those ( yet ) but we do have the ' criss-cross ' steak griddle.

Expensive gear but the kids and grandchildren buy me extra accessories each year for Christmas ..... much better than socks

We used to be BIG Weber fans, but after much hesitation, and persuasion from our newly converted ex committed charcoal friends, we bought "the beast" a six burner Outback gas BBQ. The first time we lit it I just KNEW it wouldn't taste the same, but do you know what? It tastes no different. And is so much quicker. Our first gas bottle was purchased nearly 5 years ago - and we are STILL using it!

We love BBQs and have them at least twice a week from about March/April through to late Autumn.

I use to own a Outback 6 burner as well Gill, but after several years of ownership found it too big for our needs and far too heavy to move about. It weighed a ton.

Now own a more manageable gas Q320 and a charcoal Master Touch
