Re: Tattoos
That may as be, suespud, but I've met, and heard of, many people who, in later, years, bitterly regret having them. So for them, it WAS a mistake.

Yes but "Pontius" was still one of your pilots then!!Silver_Shiney wrote:When I was in the RAF, members of the armed forces were strictly forbidden to have tattoos visible outside our uniform. Re: Tattoos
Why would anyone want their own name tattooed in another language on themselves. If they don't know who they are in English what hope is there for them.
The same goes for having your partners name tattooed on your arm, leg or elsewhere! Great, until you split up or get divorced.

I absolutely agree that you should not be judged by the amount of "ink" that you have . But the judgement of others cannot be legislated against or enforced and people do form opinions and perceptions .
Just keep them inside clothing and then the "ignorant"cannot make a judgement and not give you the job or position. We all need to conform in society to a certain extent and if you decide to maintain your right to decide then expect that others will make perceptions .

Re: Tattoos
Is it not all about the image we are trying to portray of ourselves? And in that respect we are subconsciously trying to influence perceptions. Take as an example the shaven headed youth loitering on the street corner, bull terrier on a lead, tattoos and piercings etc. That reflects the image or fashion he has decided to follow which may be perceived as intimidating. Underneath all of this bravado probably lies a thoroughly decent, pleasant individual but we are all susceptible to perception (and I count myself in that group).
However it's only when we get to know people that tattoos are simply that. I still don't like to see women with tattooed legs and arms, just looks unattractive.

Wrong - he was still doing his square-bashing before they let him near those thoroughly modern Tiger Moths

well done Raymondo, got the chattering classes flapping their gums and trying to tell people how they should confirm to the narrow minded bigotry of the social climbing generation
I did notice however Raymondo, that you have not returned to this very efficient wind up thread?? perhaps your next contribution will be smoking, dress code or children on cruises?

Hey DN don't shoot the messenger, I was just reporting on that which is a currently being discussed.
I have considered a contribution on another matter but considered it too toxic.

Re: Tattoos
one of SD's closest friends 'collects' tattoos, and like Sue's son, is not allowed them at work. There's not much they can do about the fingers - (only tiny ones on there), but she has to wear long sleeved shirts at all times so her tatts are not visible to the customers

Speak for yourself, we are certainly NOT over the hill yet and have been cruising for many years since our early 50's. So, how can you ascertain the demographic of the users of this forum, being such a new member, surely you must have been a member elsewhere before on another cruise forum to make such an assumption of us all on here being oldies and wrinklies?Soldier wrote:This is about generations and fashion. I afraid the majority who use this forum and cruise are the more mature generation .

Re: Tattoos
Wolfe,
It was not a personal assumption and it was based upon the national statistics of the age group of people who cruise . It is the generation in the age group of 20 to 30 plus who have taken on board the fashion of putting ink on their bodies .
But if you want to be included in the new trend get yourself down to the tattoo artist .What would your preference be ?
